Welcome to the exciting new world of the slippery slope. With the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling this Friday legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states, social liberalism has achieved one of its central goals. A right seemingly unthinkable two decades ago has now been broadly applied to a whole new class of citizens. Following on the rejection of interracial marriage bans in the 20th Century, the Supreme Court decision clearly shows that marriage should be a broadly applicable right—one that forces the government to recognize, as Friday’s decision said, a private couple’s “love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family.” The question presents itself: Where does the next advance come? The answer is going to make nearly everyone uncomfortable: Now that we’ve defined that love and devotion and family isn’t driven by gender alone, why should it be limited to just two individuals? The most natural advance next for marriage lies in legalized polygamy—yet many of the same people who pressed for marriage equality for gay couples oppose it. This is not an abstract issue. In Chief Justice John Roberts’ dissenting opinion, he remarks, “It is striking how much of the majority’s reasoning would apply with equal force to the claim of a fundamental right to plural marriage.” As is often the case with critics of polygamy, he neglects to mention why this is a fate to be feared. Polygamy today stands as a taboo just as strong as same-sex marriage was several decades ago—it’s effectively only discussed as outdated jokes about Utah and Mormons, who banned the practice over 120 years ago.

Polygamy will be the law of the land in five years or less and child marriage and all forms of plural marriage will be forced on us in ten years or less all by unelected judges. The seeds of another American Revolution have been sown.
My neighbor can finally marry his cat.
Anti-polygamy laws violate Muslim rights so they have to go. CARE and Obama will see to it. Christians’ religious freedom can be violated but not theirs.
Notice that sodomites don’t force halal bakeries to bake their wedding cakes or force Muslim photographers to take their pictures. Obama would unleash the full power of the regime on a gay couple who did that.
What’s next is an additional and expensive “breeding license” for those disgusting hetro-marriages that can result in offspring.
Why not? Cat’s out of the bag.
Why stop with polygamy? Why not allow all forms of plural marriage and arranged child marriage too not to mention legalizing incest. All the same arguments for gay marriage apply.
It’s Time to Legalize Polygamy and marry your dog and cat and donkey too.... Hollywood is gonna love this. It makes them look normal.
The slippery slope started long ago when marriage was effectively redefined from a sacred covenant relationship centered on the nuclear family to a branch of contract law. Cohabitation, divorce, unwed motherhood were once scandalous conditions that carried significant social stigma with them. Today’s ruling is merely a natural progression of the ongoing redefinition of marriage that has been in progress for the past 50+ years. To believe that this won’t continue is naive in the extreme.
Now that it has been decided that “marriage” is whatever we choose to say it is and is purely a contract with no larger significance, things can accelerate. Polygamy and plural marriages of whatever number and mix of sexes is the next logical step and will arrive with stunning swiftness. I fully expect the first court cases extending the new definition of marriage to plural arrangements to be decided by next year.
Beyond this, incest is the next step. Just consider the tax advantages of being able to “marry” one’s elderly parent(s) and enjoy full spousal inheritance rights with no estate taxes to worry about. The government may fume, but there’s simply no legal basis for opposing this because we all know that it’s all about #lovewins.
I know of only 1 major religion (if you call it that) allows polygamy and only for males to have upto 4 wives. You guessed it, it is the “religion of peace”.
There was one man in Australia with 64 wives and hundreds of children. He was paid millions in welfare money.
If guys can be gals and white chicks can be black chicks and any change can be “transed” and then you are whatever you choose to be ... I have no doubt that marriage will be twisted and turned to mean any configuration.
