I have come to the conclusion that the disease that is called 'humanity' must not be allowed to infect the rest of the galaxy.
We are an incredibly-flawed species, filled with lust and avarice and anger and greed, given to revenge and gossip and violence and hate. That God still loves us is something that demonstrates something about HIM, not us.
Most humans yearn for freedom and to be left alone, but others want to control and censor and manipulate and rule over us.
There have been four great experiments in having a nation that has, as its primary focus, freedom for the individual citizen: Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, post-revolutionary France, and America.... and even of those, three still allowed slaves (America being one)! The most modern example of this experiment is America.
But American freedom is mostly gone, soon to be completely gone... all in the name of 'suppressing hate speech' and 'combating global warming' and 'controlling gun violence' and 'making outcomes equal' and 'forcing citizens to provide for the poor'.
'Making outcomes equal' is the core of communism, and communism has always been the most brutal and oppressive economic and political system on the planet. 'Forcing citizens to provide for the poor' is just a watered-down version of the same, and prevents people and institutions from being able to give of free will.
Since we always seem to trend towards the destruction of individual liberty -- since we almost always, in human history, exist under some tyrant or monarch or king, or some panel or committee or politburo ....
.... I have changed my view from the Star Trek Utopian vision I used to have.
Mankind must be erased from the universe as the disease that it is.
Most people are nice, some people are evil, controlling, horrible. For the most part the evil, controlling, horrible are good at just that, causing the nice people to periodically take their show on the road to get away from people who spend all their time innovating on the evil, controlling, horrible front and thereby forcing them to start employing their time more productively :)
We need to explore space.
Nope. There is a *reason* that the Galactic Confederation of Planets won't let us leave Earth.
I submit that God is what we need.
You silly goose, it isn’t the Galactic Federation of Planets, it’s a bunch of guys in makeup who are terrified that they will have to learn to cook and various other tasks they consider beneath their dignity.
And yes most certainly God is what we need:)
Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike!
First was in Atlanta, 1988, when Operation Rescue descended en mass in conjunction with the Democrat convention. Thousands arrested for peacefully blocking access to the baby murder camps. With a few rare exceptions, leadership of faith communities, even who I thought to be good men, headed for the tall grass. Feds came at us with actual and threatened RICO. End of story.
Second was in the aftermath of 9/11 when we all recall the massive wave of solidarity that inundated the nation. But, it quickly degenerated into anger and a desire for vengeance. The missing piece was and still is repentance.
Odd as it seems today, Presidents have indeed called the nation to repentance, and that in very specific terms, not the namby pamby language prevalent today.
It's gonna take another massive hit for us as a nation to even get into a place to repent.
I believe I am one of the only people on FR who could write that original article and have it stay up.
That is because most here, including mods, know that if I write something like this, I am leading the reader to another point.
In this case, the point is that we need God, or we are so screwed.
(Hell, even dead got fooled and he and I have been buds forever)
I tell the people who worry about overpopulation to just off themselves, and help save the earth.
Very nicely done, thought it was the Pope again for a second.
If you didn’t cheat, and you didn’t read downthread, then you really have your Devo hat on right! :)
Curiously, my phone just rang. It was the Vatican asking if they could use portions of my missive.
“We are an incredibly-flawed species, filled with lust and avarice and anger and greed, given to revenge and gossip and violence and hate.”
We have exactly one example of a sapient species: us. Just because our intellect allows us to perceive that humans could and should be much better than they are doesn’t mean we have any idea where we fall on a good-bad spectrum compared to any other hypothetical sapient species.
Certainly we could be the vilest of the vile. “They slay their own unborn young, we will isolate and shun them.’ Or saintly. “They waste resources healing sick loved ones when they should just eat them. Ignore these rubes.”
Freegards
Without God we are so screwed.
LOL.

Kill me now. Wrap me in the Stars and Bars with a black gun in one hand and a 32 oz. Big Gulp of soda in the other, then set me ablaze and adrift far away from these lunatic shores. These humans are crazy.
Don't forget to smoke a cigarette and run your air conditioning on high.
