Please forgive the vanity...
Over the years, I have really enjoyed participating in Free Republic discussions on a great variety of topics. Even when there was strong disagreement, Free Republic brought me a sense of connection with others that always seemed to have a purpose.
Unfortunately, I now see clearly that it is over for the US. The constitution has no meaning and we are essentially under mob rule. There is no party to turn to and all the politicians are in collusion to game the system. I think we have reached a stage where this is all going to unravel economically and socially much faster than most people think.
Everything being pushed that most of us are against will come to fruition, with no chance of stopping it. I also realize that there will be no pushback, or moment of "hell no", despite all the brave talk of those behind keyboards. All the big talkers will eventually give up their first and second amendment rights with hardly a whimper.
I am basically going to disconnect, discontinue following politics, and quit voting. I refuse to be Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football any longer. I will now concentrate strictly on my own preparations with my family for when this all goes belly up. Honestly, at this point I would rather it all just go ahead and collapse sooner rather than later.
For my own sanity, I just need to tune it all out from now on.

Surprisingly, the plural of opus is a much more familiar term: opera.
An opus is considered a great work of art (magnum opus is the greatest by a particular artist), so the term “opera” really means a collection of great art.
A farewell message here is considered an ‘opus’ because in the past they were really magnificent! They broke the bonds of snarkiness and bitter recrimination and soared with ethereal wings into the cosmos of rhetorical excess.
They were truly great opera!
We lost our chance to slow it down or maybe stop it in 2012. We still have the same idiots that cannot see what they have done. Yes, America is finished and as the middle class goes to the toilet it will never recover. Corporations and regular businesses will be destroyed feeding the welfare system. The rich will get richer in spite of increased taxes and penalties. America has been destroyed by the communists. Only a revolution can destroy the Washington power and as each day goes by that chance diminishes.
Step outside of your immediate circle for a day or two. Look around. You will see you are a stranger in a strange land. You won't have to travel far to make this obeservation, I promise. And you won't need to be in California or another border state.
You can also feel the hostility towards you when you wander into such places.

I did this for about 5 years starting in 2006.
Bush expending his political capital on the criminal immigrants drove me off the cliff, out of the game.
But as a news junkie I came back around after a time.

There is no political solution to a spiritual problem. Unless and until the American People turn to and fear God, there will only be more of the same and worse.
Do what I do at times like these. I go out and buy more ammo!
If I was going to be around to get some, make it cheese stuffed crust and cold cold Corona with lime. Or better still, make that Cold cold Corona with Lime flavored Rum.

It’s not the SHTF scenario I worry about so much...it’s the slow, almost silent death of a culture, of a nation, of a way of thinking. That’s how most nations, empires end....they just sort of crumble slowly from within.

I have no common goal with you. Jim has been very good to me, and I don’t strive to damage his forum. He’s been very good to you as well, which leaves many questioning your behavior.
I'd characterize it as having happened slowly most of our lives, then with a huge, sudden and continuing acceleration over the past eight years.
It's going faster than I ever thought possible. Ten years ago I would have laughed at SHTF thinking, or the culture collapsing; ten years ago I would have said today's situation could never happen in the US.
That's about where I am. I thought we were finished in 08, but then along came 09 and then the mid terms of 2010 and I thought, okay, maybe not finished yet....we'll survive 4 years of Obama and dig our way out of it. But then along came 2012, and we were reminded not only of how many of us are idiots, but how many of the supposed good guys are either wimps, or not good. That's when I started tracking with more of the SHTF and ex-pat stuff. Trying to figure out who i'm going to "go Galt" so to speak.
Those of you have never read or watched the video of Yuri Beznekov about the Demoralization of America...should.
We are in the process of it now.
