When it comes to restaurants, bars and unlimited evening entertainment options, cities like New York and London immediately spring to mind. But for people who actually live in such a major metropolis, the story may be a bit different. When it comes to cities where people have a truely high quality of life, a recent survey has found Tokyo, Japan, to be the top choice.

Until those monsters come stalking out of the bay...
I used to live there and as far as large cities go it is very livable however the article cites the numerous public libraries as being one of the attractions.
I find that fairly incredible.
Private bookstores yeah, but public libraries?
not so much.
I must say that the train system is freaking amazing The cops never mind if you ask for directions.
Ping!
Funny you should mention that, I understand there aren’t too many “brothers” and “sisters” in japan...............coincidence? I think not.
Another really nice ass back to Tokyo is that panhandling is almost unknown.
You can go 10 years in Japan and suffer ZERO instances of being out for money by strangers on the street.
Another nice thing is that during the hot summer there are Lots of water park you can go to and cool off, often they don’t accept people who have a zillion garish tattoos, which are still somewhat mentally associated with the yakuza.
Never been to Tokyo, is it multicultural? When ever I see pictures of the city its difficult to spot foreigners.
If you don’t mind living in a freekin’ anthill!
I didn’t realize you could dictate a reply.
Tokyo is also a Mono-culture society in that everyone is part of the “in-group’ and so their crime rates are way down because of that and the nature of man.
Interestingly, the only US city on the list is Portland, in last place at No. 25. Portland features great seafood restaurants and Italian sandwiches—they’re called submarines or torpedoes out here—and it’s not far from resorts at Bar Harbor and the Mt. Washington Valley. However, winters are long and cold, and the highways in the area are mostly two-lane, often with poor signage.
Last sentence of the article is below:
“In the United States, the only city to make the list was Portland, Oregon, which slipped in at number 25.”
The Japanese are not a violent people. You would be safe.
Could it be that it is safe because they keep certain undesirables out of their country?
Disney Sea and Asahi Dry,... McFly... Hello?!
The chart just said, "Portland, USA." I didn't read far enough to see that it was referring to another Portland.
I hear Spokane is a good place if yo have a good suntan.
Libraries are there and plentiful - just need to know where to look. My wife and kids visit them nearly everytime they are in country, mainly because of the range of items offered and to pickul local notices on activities and festivals and other items that won’t be in the major travel pubs. They’ve been to factory tours and special events as a result.
Tokyo / Japan is the best place in the world. We have all the music, food, 24 entertainment, endless bars and hot babes, lots of money, and few immigrants that are here for professional reasons. I’m going on 17 years now and have no desire to leave. This is home.
