Investigators have uncovered evidence that Cardinals officials broke into a network of the Houston Astros that housed special databases the team had built, according to law enforcement officials. Internal discussions about trades, proprietary statistics and scouting reports were compromised, the officials said.

The story just broke today and I think it will become a major story.
Yesterday
I first saw something about it today but I’m betting its going to be a major story.
Pretty serious federal crime.
Indeed. I’m betting jail time for somebody.
I get why they tried the hacking, but...the Astros?!?!? :)
The “hack” was from a former Astros exec that went to work for the Cardinals, and probably still had passwords.
Astros 38-28 0.576 0
Rangers 34-30 0.531 3
Angels 32-32 0.5 5
Mariners 29-36 0.446 8.5
Athletics 28-39 0.418 10.5
Have you been following the Astros’ progress lately? They’re on pace to win 94 games.
Is Arnold Rothstein still alive?
Baseball for God’s sake, baseball. Nothing is sacred in Obama’s Marxist paradise.
Why are FBI assets being wasted on this?
Seeing a lot of complaining about letting fans vote for All Star players. I think its Royals fans stuffing the ballot for their guys but its within the rules.
They’re putting guys on the All Star team that have batting averages .100 lower than Miggy and Iggy. Personally I’m kind of glad they won’t make the team as primary lineup players because I’d hate to see either of them get hurt in a meaningless all star game. All Star games generally suck anyway.
I warned them not to put the databases on Hillary’s private server.
Ground Control, though a dazzling piece of technology, represented a huge security risk. The motto in Houstons front office was In God We TrustAll Others Must Bring Data. To make sense of it, all that data was funneled into Ground Control. It took us a full year to map out the plan and start building it, Luhnow told me. The original idea was if I’m sitting at my desk and I receive a call from any general manager in baseball, and he wants to talkyou know, I’m interested in this player of yours and who do you want from my organization in return?that I can, without having to hang up and get back to them in two hours, with a few keystrokes look at their entire organization. I’ve got our scouting reports. I’ve got the medical reports. I’ve got a valuation system. I can look at our player and say, OK, if I’m going to be giving up four units of value in this player, how do I get four-plus units of value back from him? [I can tell him], I’ll take these three guys in exchange for that guy.
If the Cardinals had access to the Astros valuation system, they could obviously do an immense amount to undermine them, from drafting players they desire to undercutting them in trade deals to knowing their game plans ahead of time when the two teams faced off.
You got that backwards.

“The Astros are run by general manager Jeff Luhnow, who had left the Cardinals to take the Astros job in 2011. Under Luhnow, the Astros have made a remarkable turnaround, unexpectedly leading their division and sporting one of baseball’s best records this season.
The Times reported that the hack was done by Cardinals front-office employees seeking revenge on Luhnow for leaving the team.”
Not that trivial stuff, like the US Secretary of State committing numerous felonies and leaking state secrets, or senior IRS officials committing numerous felonies by sharing taxpayer information with prohibited entities...
