Must be due to all that fracking. Oh, wait...
Excellent! Thanks for posting. Good stuff!
There are a pair of largely granite peaks southeast of Bisbee. At first glance, they look like two almost identical peaks right beside each other but on closer inspection, it is obvious the there was originally one peak separated over time by a transform fault.
Interesting
Fracking hunh?
8.1 on the Richter scale would by about the same level as the San Francisco earthquake of 1906!
Why would the writer of the posted article write about an 1887 earthquake just now? Any particular reason for it?
I told my husband that we should batten down the hot water heater and the bookcases just like we did in California. He thinks we do not live in earthquake country anymore. But as I look around Tucson, with all the surrounding mountains, it is not hard to guess what action caused the up-welling in terrain. Actually, I think with the four mountains ranges all around us, it looks like we live in the center of a caldera.
On a personal note, I wrote a children’s continuing saga for a local elementary school, and it began with this earthquake and subsequent fire. I even made a pop-up book to show the boulders coming down and everything aflame.
We’re due for an 8 real soon. Hope it’s in D.C. while Congress is in session.
What caused the fires in the countryside?
