Kurt Warner (St Louis Rams / Arizona Cardinals) was a self identified Christian who won a Superbowl while with the Rams and frequently credited God with all the opportunities he was given in the NFL during interviews, etc..

Yeah didn't the NFL overlook Kurt Warner in the draft and the poor guy had to fight it out in Arena Football before anyone would take him seriously?

Which is the point totally. Why did Warner have to do that? Why didn't a team pick him up and develop him? Why should these guys get shafted by the NFL when lesser quarterbacks are given chance after chance. Lucky for Warner that the hard work paid off in droves.

Warner had to do that because he didn’t have the skills yet. Warner has admitted he didn’t have the skills and he needed more time under center and more in game reps. Teams don’t really pick up guys to develop them anymore. In the time of high revenue, high fan expectation, and high player turn over due to free agency nobody has the time of the will to sink years into a guy only to have him jump ship when he finally gets the skills.

How many times have we seen QB's that didn't get drafted in the first round and instead were drafted in the 3rd, 4th or later that have turned out to be stellar QB's?

Joe Montana - unarguably one of the best QB's to ever play the game wasn't drafted until the third round at #82.

Conversely, how many first round QB's have we seen go bust in the NFL?

Jay Cutler was drafted in the first round by the Denver Bronco's and is now with the Chicago Bears. I'd say Cutler's been a complete BUST on both teams. (He lives a mile down the road from me, I hate that guy.)

Point is, what happened to Kurt Warner isn't unusual. Good QB's get overlooked all the time, and conversely, really CRAPPY QB's (Jay Cutler) who are all hype manage to go first round and go for the money.
