Asian American students may be at a distinct disadvantage when applying to highly competitive colleges, according to Sara Harberson, a former Ivy League admissions dean.
In a recent op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, Harberson the former associate dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania and the former dean of admissions and financial aid at Franklin & Marshall College writes that there is always a reason for a college applicant's rejection. In many cases, students are denied admission because they don't have a "tag" associated with their application what Harberson calls "the proverbial golden ticket for a student applying to an elite institution."
Students with tags may be "recruited athletes, children of alumni, children of donors or potential donors, or students who are connected to the well connected," according to the former admissions dean. However, Harberson writes, "Asian American students typically don't have these tags." As she notes:
Asian Americans are rarely children of alumni at the Ivies, for example. There aren't as many recruited athletes coming from the Asian American applicant pool. Nor are they typically earmarked as "actual" or "potential" donors. They simply don't have long-standing connections to these institutions.

Frankly, I don’t believe one word of this. The words are “not an accepted PC minority.”
Total horsesh**.
The problem is that, on average, Asian students are smarter and work harder than anyone else. That’s unfair. We need to save places for the REAL minorities—black and Hispanic. And white guys with connections.
Gotta keep those slots open for deserving Amish students.
RE: The words are not an accepted PC minority.
OK, the next question is WHY?
Skin not dark enough? Heck Many Indians have dark skin too.
I agree. Because of a few unfavorable Supreme Court decisions, these marxist college admission tyrants can’t openly show their racism. I’m sure they are working on John Roberts right now.
“Asians are outperforming our rich donor’s kids and we simply can’t have that.”
The private schools take all the moderately qualified blacks (like the Obamas) and leave nothing for even elite schools like Berkeley. Berkeley measures it’s non athlete black male student population in the dozens, I believe.

“Franklin & Marshall College” is not an ivy league college of which there are 12 of them. You will get bitch slapped if you refer to a non ivy league college to a ivy leaguer. They take their distinction very seriously.
ping
Like for example a billionaire sponsor from an oil rich sheikdom in say, Saudi Arabia?
RE: ivy league college of which there are 12 of them
Let’s see:
Harvard
Yale
Brown
Dartmouth
University of Pennsylvania
Columbia
Cornell
Princeton
I can only thibnk of 8 I seem to have missed the other 4.
Actually that makes sense, because in the Ivys what they are selling is access far more than education. Which explains a lot about our world, actually.
It sounds a bit like needing a car to get a job, and a job to get a car.
Our very history with traditional minority preference (quotas, action and preferential emphasis) dictates preference be given to those who cannot compete fairly.
Their whole system of race and "the card" is built around concocting reasons, developing programs and special legislation and compensation for all manner of everyday life's challenges because we are all racists. And, to allow 'Asians' to glom onto that progress just isn't in their cup of tea. That's why.
You missed the part where he did the same job at University of Pennsylvania, which is an Ivy League school.
RE: Like for example a billionaire sponsor from an oil rich sheikdom in say, Saudi Arabia?
Yep, or being the son of the dictator (of any country ).
racism
Oh give it up Harvard with your “tags” excuse for excluding qualified Asian students. They’re using racial profiling to screen out Asians and using a quota system to keep their numbers down. The irony of all this is astounding. Who are the real racists now?
gotta keep spots open for politicians kids no matter how undeserving they are.
