The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.
I figured, finally, why my stomach hurt so bad. I had bought a bottle of Starbucks, and I think it was a little off. I was doubled over with the pain before I got it under control.
It was a day of pain and eating, and I’ll be glad when the ulcers are under control so I can STOP!!!
And now that I have checked in, I’m headed for the shower.
Either there’s an owl pellet out back on the cement, or one of the cats had a hairball.
Neither of which are my idea of breakfast fare...
I have that beat. I have millions of dollars in lottery winnings waiting for me in Ghana. All I have to do is send this nice man my bank account number.
I’m still waiting for my ship to come in, but I think I’m at the wrong pier.
Is Patrick still interested in all things Greek? While I was emptying the book crates last month, I found a boxed set of Greek Myths, that should go with the Histories. Let me know and I can send them to him.
I think of "starbux" in the same way that Montgomery Scott, as Scotty from the good ship Enterprise, thought of "synthehol"; it is only for spewing out in horror.
How are they allowed to market that stuff as coffee?
Real coffee is like the stuff that seeps through your potted plant and overflows the bottom tray, full of dark potions and dismal potentialities. Back me up, here, Darks.
I’m beginning to believe you!
No more Startlebux. I wanted cold coffee, but I would have been better off brewing my own and refrigerating it for a couple of hours, but I was in a hurry.
Coffee can teach you Physics. If you like it hot, you need to keep it compact, as close to spherical as you can, so the heat doesn't radiate away, and the liquid evaporate.
So getting it to cool is even easier. Just spread it out. You can do this by pouring it from one container to another in a thin trickle. Now that's skinny! And it cools rapidly.
But that's not cold. If you want it cold, you should put it in a tall, thin, closed container in a cold place. An empty water bottle, ready for the recycle bin, would be perfect.
Keeping the lid on the bottle would prevent the coffee from evaporating. Just put it in a cold place, and get it when you're ready.
Note that the "cold place" doesn't have to be your refrigerator. It could be just a cold bath of water, perhaps with an ice-cube tray emptied into it. Especially if you're going to transfer the drink to another container before enjoying it.
My mother, bless her hillbilly soul, would offer me a cup of coffee and add, “It’s been saucered and blowed, Honey!”
Yep, I know the cooling tricks to some extent!
Just don't send it over to the Senate. That "cooling saucer" trick doesn't work anymore. It has become the Elephant's Graveyard.
Wallllnow. It ain’t big enough for no elefink. It’s just a saucer for one of us po’ folk.
A set of Greek myths would be very helpful. You’d be surprised how many they don’t know!
Let me know how much it is, and I’ll pay the postage.
It will be media rate, so it will be slow. The box my brother used to send me his old Nook is is just about the right size, so I’ll get it ready to go and have it off to you (Pat) by Monday.
I knew when I sent the other ones that there were some missing, but couldn’t recall where they were...in the crates!!
My daughter texted me last night saying her life was imploding and that her marriage was breaking up. There is a lot of that going around...
I’m too lazy to check, so I if am repeating myself, forgive me, but my son also called to tell me his son got his Mission Call, and his CTR ring was there at the right time. He will be going to California Bakersfield Mission, and will report to the Missionary Training Center in Provo, on Sept 30th. The general plan is to swing by here on their way to drop him off.
That is exciting for all, as my son felt that James’ learning disability was so severe, it would keep him from going out of state. This is, to my mind, a “message” that means this young man has wonderful things to do!
(In actuality, it is a miracle as my son was told he would never have children.)
All kinds of people are told they’ll never have children, and then they do. We should probably stop listening to the people who say these things.
I’m glad everything is working out for your grandson’s mission posting. Maybe he’ll like Bakersfield. It probably has great Mexican food.
Check your account in a few minutes: I’ll have put up the postage.
About sums it up. Except for the potted plant part. What it seeps through only looks like potting soil...
But is it The Death Brew?
(Which I admit I haven’t made in a long time.)
On a totally unrelated note...
It occurred to me that I was taught to respect my elders. It’s getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
Doesn’t that have socks in it?
4 people just got home from camp. I did the laundry triage out in the front yard. Looks like six loads.
Unless you do laundry like a college student. Then it's one load...
