Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

“Let me tell you a story, kitten!”

I was having an overheating episode and got up for some ice water. Headed back to bed.

Good premise, a little creepy, surprise ending.

Do you have a Geronl fiction ping?

Kitties and writers have a long history together. Kitties are wonderful muses.

Or mouses.

GeronL, I liked the short story but my creative writing teacher would ask you to substitute “ick” for another more demonstrative word. Bit to juvenile, you can think of a better word to show mood. Everything else was purrfect.

I’ve never read a Korean story before.

It's not back seat driving, just issuing orders to ones chauffeur.

I hope you got some sleep, too.

One thing that occurred to me is that I don’t “see” the characters through the writing. Since they’re Korean, I assume they have black hair, dark eyes, olive skin, etc. However, you could make them more individual by mentioning a feature or a garment without adding too many words.

My mother had a neurotic Siamese who liked to lie draped around her neck while she was driving.

Better. However the thing they put on after surgery is confining. I can’t move my chest area from my top to my belly button. It’s hot, restricting, and itches. Just like a cast when you break an arm or a leg.

Wanna scratch, and can’t, so it’s not painful, painful. Just itchy, annoying and uncomfortable, like a cast.

Tomorrow the doc will put on a new one. My understanding is three weeks of this. It will be worth it though, I’ll look like a Normal Girl again.

Ungh. It’s morning. So “they” say.

I have no idea why I’m even here, when I want to sleep. Maybe I will take a nap in a bit.

Lately, I’ve been concerned about my clutch lock and the fact that there is only one key for it. I called the company, thinking they could make me a couple of extras but they don’t make the keys. They just sell the products, which come with three keys. (I lost one, and one broke.)

I don’t know how I would ever get the thing off the clutch if the key broke, so I’ve decided not to use it, and will just plan on getting another one. Since we have had several cars stolen here, it’s difficult for me to reconcile not having a lock for my truck.

I don’t know what I would do without the truck. I’m too old to walk to Walmart again (it’s too stressful for me) and though there is a small bus that takes residents to the stores, it take three hours to make the trip from here, back to here. That’s just too long. It’s longer than if I walked and took the bus home.

So that would leave a taxi...

Can you go to the hardware or auto-parts store and get a copy of the key made?

I’m very sorry about your itchy and scratchiness. Hope it’s better soon.

I have only two children today, but they’re the ones that I can’t take my eye off them.

I don’t know of anyplace that could make keys like this. The edges are straight, but the flat sides have a couple of little pits in them. Which is probably why the company only sells the item. I don’t know who the manufacturer is, so I can’t contact them about making the keys.

You could phone the auto-parts store, describe the key, and ask if they can make them. Doesn’t cost anything to ask!

(Sorry if I sound like I’m talking to Bill ;-).

It looks like a key blank, but has pits in the flat sides. Most key machines are made to grind one or two edges of the keys, but not the sides.

I was looking for key shapes, but couldn’t see anything like it. Of course, since it looks like a key blank. LOL!
