Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

I had no idea that Radio Shack had gone Tango Uniform!

Yep..

Some stores are still open under some sort of agreement with Sprint.. (from Feb. 5)

Nearly a century after it opened its first store and sent out its first catalog, RadioShack declared bankruptcy on Thursday.

It has struck a deal to sell up to 2,400 of its approximately 4,000 stores and wireless company Sprint (S) will create a "store within a store" in up to 1,750 of those.

RadioShack said that its remaining stores are expected to close.

I would go. You could always leave if it’s bad. Never pass up a free meal.

P.S. no dishes to wash either

A lot fewer people died than I expected. I can take the movie back to the library tomorrow.

Yep, back in about 1996 I was calling for them to be imprisoned on Alcatraz and charge $25 for visitors. It could have increased the money to the government dramatically.

Drunk Squirrel Wreaks Havoc at Private Club

Bottles and glasses smashed as a result of the rodent’s rampage

An inebriated squirrel has left the Honeybourne Railway Club facing a £300 bill.

Sam Boulter, the secretary of the club in Evesham, Worcestershire described how he saw the animal staggering around the premises.

The squirrel emerged from behind a box of crisps, looking rather the worse for wear.

It appears that the rodent had run behind the bar and managed to turn on one of the pumps.

Whether the squirrel was thirsty or just looking for a good night out remains unclear, but its progress was somewhat shaky.

"There were bottles scattered around, money scattered around and he had obviously run across the bar's pumps and managed to turn on the Caffrey's tap,” Mr Boulter, 62, told the BBC.

"He must have flung himself on the handle and drank some as he was staggering around all over the place and moving a bit slowly.

"I've never seen a drunk squirrel before. He was sozzled”

The squirrel was eventually trapped in a waste paper bin and freed.

It’s a classic, apparently. It was mentioned in an article about theater history, and I checked it out from the library.

Animals running amok seem to be making the news on your side of the pond. The Telegraph reports on this critter in Denmark.

Must have gotten into the Carlsburg Elephant. Strong brew, that stuff.

When it comes to evening outings, I don’t do very well. It means a delay in taking my pills, and that results in me being pretty wired until midnight or later, and then it takes me about three days to get over it.

My stamina begins to flag at about noon, and by 3:00 PM, I’m ready for bed. On good days, I can stay up until 5:00 PM before heading for the bedroom.

Once I get there, I do quiet things, like play solitaire on my Nook and then read. Sometimes, I can’t even read because my brain won’t let me understand what’s printed on the page.

And as for dishes, I use paper plates and cups because I don’t always feel up to standing still long enough to wash dishes and pans. I mostly microwave, and occasionally, I will fry an egg, but mostly, it’s microwave “meals.”
