The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

Hurray.
Nicely played.
BTW, you may recall that FR has a Folding team participating in the protein folding research out of Stanford University. If you hadn’t heard; you have, now.
In any case, they’ve now got a browser-based folding software that anyone can run if they’re using the Chrome browser.
Check this out (and be sure to specify team # 36120):

Life is weird. I hope you’re all doing fine. We’ve got our ancient “Blue’s Clues ABC” program running, hoping Frank may learn to read someday.
One very spoiled cat...on the other hand, one knows where to find it.
Good morning catfriend.
Don’t you wish you were that kitty this morning?
Poor kitty, birdie is bigger than you.
How is Anoreth doing on the road trip?
There has been no word from Anoreth, Dog, or Bill since St. Louis. Therefore, we assume they’re all doing fine. They would be cranky if we insisted they check in. Elen got in a fuss when we told her she had to call from camp once a week to verify her wellbeing and pass along any information we might find useful, but she’s complied so far.
I wish my mother was like that.
Wen I was away at college I called once a week. Once I graduated and went out on my own if she doesn’t hear from me at least every other day she assumes I’ve been in a car accident or I’ve fallen in my apt and I can’t get up.
I assumed all moms were like that. Especially the Jewish ones.
My mother gets worried (and vice-versa) if we don’t exchange emails at least once a week.
I would, naturally, like more information about this trip as it progresses, but nagging at them wouldn’t help. You can’t make them respond. I’m sure Dog would text me if Bill or Anoreth were in the hospital or in jail ;-).
Dog would text Jake. :)
He’d send a selfie.
Maybe he’s sending Jake selfies when the hoomins fall asleep. Animals are clever like that,
I’d love to be Dr. Doolittle so I’d know what dogs and cats really think.
Jake thinks, “Go away. I’m sleeping.”
The night wasn’t too bad, but the morning is ugly. There is a nasty wind blowing, and my brain won’t shut off.
And I see by the calendar that we are beginning a new month.
Fancy that.
I would gladly trade places with you but I was never good at toilet training.
That was the worst part of being a mother, I think, was my failure in that department.
My mother, however, trained seven of us and then went on to train my son.
But maybe that falls into the “TMI” category.
Toilet training is not one of my skills, either.
I’m glad it’s a new month.
It’s just another month I have to endure alone, and that is sad. My only contact with the outside world most days is FR. Of course, I shop for food, and take care of the truck, but for the rest of the time, I just stay in and talk to myself.
That poor kitteh! That must be a juvenile peacock, as his tail isn’t very big.
It’s also possible the peacock molted.
This was just posted on Cheezeburger.

I thought it was brilliant. And it features a black kitty.
Happy Hump Day
What do I know? My brain is impeded right now, and I don’t know how to fix it.
