Wife has 8.1, I want nothing to do with it and have sworn off “helping’ her with the damn thing.

Outlook?

Graacckkk...I hated that abomination years ago when work at a government contractor job insisted I use it on .mil email accounts. Bloated, slow.

As opposed to Linux, which has been a free install and free upgrades, for over 20 years.

...

And it still has trouble gaining market share. As someone who’s used Linux and still tries it once and awhile, I’m not surprised.

I’ve had less trouble with 8.1 than any other Windows version.

Yes, a mistake was made by making Metro the default, but workarounds have been available from the beginning. Other than that it’s very similar to Windows 7.

Sorry, no sale. Even with 7, MS moved too much stuff around and buried things I often wanted to use several menus down. Why in hell do they do stupid crap like that? Leave the work flow the same and change the underneath if they think it needs it, do not tear the whole house down and rebuild a new one with all the rooms laid out strangely.

I am not planning to buy it. Plenty happy with what I have at the moment.

Check 1 box and Win8.1 boots direct to the desktop. I’m on desktop within 20 seconds of power on...and very rarely use any tile page.

I upgraded from Win7 direct to Win8.1 - never used Win8.

To say Win8.1 was light years better than Win7 would be an understatement.

I’ll be more than happy to keep Windows 7 until my computer dies.

“I’m 100% satisfied w/ Win 7 Pro. Why would I ever want to go to Win 10 even if it is free?”

Because at some point Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 ( Whatever ) will no longer be supported.

ROFL

I feel your pain! I had to upgrade to 7 so that I could learn it to help my wife with her 7! ;-)

Their version numbers are changing so fast that I am reminded of what fence posts look like while driving 100 miles per hour.

As someone who’s used Linux for decades, you’re misleading everyone else reading this. Linux is just as easy (easier, if you don’t demand a slavish duplication of all Windows’s foibles) to use and orders of magnitude more stable and virus-free than Windows has ever been. Maybe Microsoft will finally approach Linux with version 10. It surely hasn’t previously.

I used Linux for a couple of years, but Windows for much longer. I’ve had more system crashes with Linux. My worst security problem was when I used a Fedora Spin.

I haven’t had a virus or security problem with Windows in years. I find it has better usability and much more compatibility with hardware.

You tell people your experience and I’ll tell them mine, but don’t you dare imply that I’m lying.
