In a nutshell, it is the clash between good and evil gone out of control in our lives, and to the advantage of evil.
God told mankind in the garden, don’t fool yourself that you can handle good and evil on your own, you can never embrace it in your finite mind. (Paraphrasing on my part.)
The serpent told mankind, hogwash. God’s only being envious of you. (Again, paraphrasing on my part.)
Mankind made a choice.
Now salvation is the only answer, and every question needs to be viewed in that light. This puts God ahead of everything else, and individual men ahead of country.
