I am making two presumptions here:
1. There was a time most of us would sit and watch 30 minutes of Peter Jennings, or Brokaw, or CNN in the PM to find out what was happening in the world. 2. Most of us here no longer watch any MSM news.
If my presumptions are right, what was it that caused you to finally boycott MSM news forever? Was there some final straw that caused that decision?

I stopped watching the nightly news programs sometime in the ‘80s. I stopped watching the Sunday Morning shows sometime in the ‘90s.
When Rush Limbaugh became a household word (which was during the Bill Clinton administration), the MSM seemed to take it as their mission to counterbalance him. They became totally agenda-oriented sometime during that period.
That, in turn, created an underserved market, which opened the door for Fox News.
We stopped getting cable TV in the late 1990s. Haven’t had it since.
About 1985, and the list is to long.
When my Dad halted his long held subscription to TIME magazine in mid-70’s, I started paying more attention to the news and their liberal bias.
I used to watch Fx “News.” But after I continued studying Constitution after Obama got elected, it became evident that Fx was ignoring the Constitution.
For me it was after watching 12 years (going from 17 to 29 years old in the process) of the mediawhores hammering Reagan & Bush under the guise (myth) of being “independent watch dogs” and defending the publics “right to know” and then suddenly having no interest in either when slick willie arrived.
It was a combination of reasons for me.
1. It is late. Unless it was major breaking news, I will have read about the story on internet stories up to a couple days earlier.
2. It was so liberal biased, it was not considered accurate.
3. Commercials.
4. Sensationalism; the announcement of a story and make you sit through commercials and other stories first.
5. Related to 4, you have to watch areas you don’t care about to get to those you do.
Hmm, interesting question. I don’t really remember when. I did hang around for Fox News for a while but I haven’t really watched TV for the past 5 years or so.
Did watch Fox for a bit in the late 90's up until O'Blowhard pissed me off smearing the Swift Boat guys. Quit then with all TV news.
When I realized Walter Cronkite was a flake. I think it was 1964 when I was 15.
2002.
Sometime between 1989 and 1992, I can’t remember exactly when. 1989 was when I got my first computer that had a modem, and also when I began teaching evening and weekend classes, so that even if I had wanted to watch the “evening news,” I couldn’t have. By the time of the 1992 election I had given up MSM news entirely.

I haven’t completely given up watching MSM news, but, periodically am disgusted at news coverage.
Examples of my disgust with their obvious slanting of stories:
1. repeatedly showing the picture of 13 year old Trayvon Martin, giving the impression that a little kid was shot for no reason, and never showing the true thuggish appearance of him at the time of the shooting.
2. The media celebrating “gay marriage week” in May 2012, when Obama came out in favor of homosexual marriage. They have always been cheerleaders for that issue, however, doing a gay marriage week seemed over the top to me. And whatever happened to reporting and analysis of issues, as opposed to celebrating the president coming out on a policy issue? Is there any other policy issue on which the media will celebrate like on the issue of marriage???
Around 1996-97.
Shortly after the OKC bombing I knew SOMEthing was wrong when the first ID’d bomber, a middle-eastern man, disappeared from the news cycle before the FBI came out and said they’d captured Nichols.
There were other indications. The assault on the peaceful members of the SDA church in WACO by combined forces of FBI, ATF, US Army over an alleged $200 tax violation which could have been settled months earlier before killing anyone.
Several other events got me to reading WA Times and some news outlets on the web like World Net Daily.
Friend of mine urged me to compare just the Sunday editions of WaPo and Wash. Times and see what stories the Post didn’t even report on, or buried 20 pages in with scant reportage.
Mind blowing. Then I started to listen, actually LISTEN, to Rush Limbaugh.
Mainstream media is coordinated, they get talking points daily from the White House and DNC. It’s like they’re all clones of each other. Same with print media. No ifs ands or buts.
