Only 63 percent of Americans have saved any money for retirement within the past year, according to a Federal Reserve survey released Wednesday.
The survey of 5,800 Americans, conducted last fall, found that 31 percent of Americans have no retirement savings or pension plans. And among adults older than 45, almost 25 percent of respondents didn't have retirement savings. Thirty-eight percent of respondents, meanwhile, said they don't plan on retiring and will "keep working as long as possible," USA Today reports.

I’d be surprised if it was actually that high, given current conditions.
Meanwhile, with the daughter’s college now paid for, the wife and I are socking away every single penny we can afford to.
The fact of the matter is, sometimes you need cheap crap, and no one sells more cheap crap than Walmart.
And if I can kill two birds with one stone and pick up the needed cheap crap and a few other things all at the same time, then i’ll brave the hordes of mouth breathers.
“...sometimes you need cheap crap...”
When you see name brand mdse at Home Depot for $x and find it at Walmart for 1/6th the Home Depot price, I call that smart shopping, not cheap crap.
I shop Wally World, whenever I can screw up the courage.
One of the things that bothers me most though, is why so many shoppers there cannot understand that it is possible to place your shopping cart, and park your fat a** while you shop, without blocking the aisle.
Why am I saying “ Excuse me” because my fellow shopper is an inconsiderate jerk? Aldis: same thing.
Meiers seems to attract the brightest shoppers.
I remember a study which suggested that when Walmart came into a town it was like giving everyone in the town a 10% raise.
Looking at their prices, I believe it. And, the competition keeps other store prices down. I may choose to go into a competitor down the street to avoid the crowds, but I know that the prices I pay there reflect the intense competition from Walmart.

Aren’t you glad that you only have one daughter whose college tuition you have to be responsible for?
I can just imagine how a family with income like yours can make do if they had say, 3 college kids....
No worries - the government will confiscate funds from those who have planned ahead and give the money to those who have not.
In exchange for votes, of course.
When they do these surveys, I doubt they exclude legal and illegal immigrants.
