The mother of a four-year-old son, Heather Hironimus, tearfully signed an order allowing for the circumcision of her boy, so that she could be released from prison. The event has stirred a national debate about the necessity of circumcision, and the question of whether all children should be allowed the right to bodily integrity.
Hironimus was imprisoned after she fled with her son, attempting to avoid the fulfillment of an agreement with the boys father that would see him circumcised. Shes now taken center stage on the issue, with anti-circumcision activists rallying to her cause, raising $50,000 in legal bills to defend her son, Chase Hironimus. The father wishes to circumcise the boy so that he looks like him.

“It’s best to have it done at birth...”
This sounds like two vindictive adults who had a child, broke off their relationship and are now using this poor boy to “up” the other parent. Years back when we were looking into foreign adoption, we asked our pediatrician about circumcision and older children (18 months and above). The practice said if it had not been done by age 1, they would refuse to do it UNLESS there was some sort of medical issue like what you described or numerous UTI’s. The child could make up his own mind and have it done in his later teens (and under anesthesia). Newborns don’t have the same nerve endings as older kids or grown ups. Many newborns literally sleep right through it.
This may explain the rage of Moslem men - they get it at age 13.
“Female circumcision” is a very broad term. There are varieties that are not all that different in effect from male circumcision, all the way up to varieties roughly equivalent to cutting off most of the penis.
Ask me if I care
To repeat the salient portion of my last message to you:
my regard for your opinion reached epic proportions of ennui.
If circumcision was supposed to make the Jews unique among the nations, God may not have thought it through.
The Egyptians, among many other ancient and modern peoples, practiced circumcision.
So do many if not most pagan African tribes, not to mention Muslims around the world. A majority of American males used to be circumcized. The practice became common for no logical reason I’ve seen, then went out of style in the same way.
“my regard for your opinion reached epic proportions of ennui.”
As does mine for yours, assuming you are capable of thinking long enough to form one, of which I am seriously doubtful.
For those interested, here’s a link to a discussion on the benefits and risks of the procedure. It appears to be a “just the facts” site.

Its not as easy as that. She signed a legal document with her husband agreeing on it, then kidnapped the child.
That is exactly right. They are NOT the same thing.
Back when I was young and silly we used that reasoning, that we wanted dad's and sons' penises to be similar.
It's really a moot argument .... because most families, including ours, never have that moment when a father and son are naked together and the son is looking at his father's privates.
I consider myself a libertarian in the Jefferson sense... there is a difference.
Ummm . . . yes it is.
You made the claim, you have to support.
Person 1: “Big Foot is real!”
Person 2: “Where is you evidence?”
Person 1: “The burden of proof isn’t on me!”
F- in logic.
Don’t waste your time arguing with these Romneyites. It’s a frustratingly useless waste of time.
No, individuals can decide how libertarian they are, but libertarian ism doesn’t change, and Jefferson was not a libertarian.
Well, that’s your POV.
Muslims believe that Abraham was a Muslim prophet. :)
They don’t believe Islam began with Mo, he’s just the last and greatest of a long line of prophets. Besides Abraham, it includes Moses, Solomon and Jesus. Who’s #2 in rank after Mohammed, BTW.
Romneyites?
There isn’t a more anti-Romney poster here than me, in fact, I just made a post on another thread disagreeing with Romney on an issue that he was libertarian on.
Gay issues.
And yet here you are again.
The point I was making is the covenant between God and the Jews was the first...
Many cultures and peoples copied them...
Many Jews fell away from the faith or intermarried with non-Jews. and keep their customs...
The old testemant is filled with stories of the Jews turning away from their faith and intermarriging with pagan religions...
