that’s the way to do it. Look for FINISHED auction prices.

There seems to be a real sellers market on these guns right now, prices are insane. If you were going to sell, now would be the time.

They were discontinued in 1999. The action is what makes them valuable. Buttery smooth in DA mode. I had an Anaconda and I would shoot better DA than SA.

My 686 and 19 are close but the ribbed barrel on the Colt is a thing of beauty.

Kind of like the what F86 Sabre jet was to jets, it’s looks are the standard by which others are compared. The Grace Kelly of firearms.

Just trying to look out for you. Revolvers like that are a leading cause of major boating accidents.

In the safe, do not sell!

I should have bought the blued one I had a shot at 35 years ago.

Boating accidents...You’ve been reading my mail, huh?

BOY! Have I been through a lot of those!

Thanks for your concern, though.

It's worth FAR MORE than anyone would pay you for it.

Hear that!

You're daddy gave it to you. Think about it.

It's one of the finest revolvers ever made. And, he loved you enough to leave it to YOU.

At $750- $1,000. Depends on what part of the country you're in and whether there are any S&W 586/686 on the same shelf. They have the better trigger.

I’m feeling kind of sick after seeing those prices. I sold a 6” blued Python for $500 (including a Bianchi shoulder holster) in the ‘80s. One of only three firearms I have ever let go of.

It was a lot of fun to shoot too.

Depending on the condition, $1,200 to $2,500. Maybe more.

Saw you were excited about a $250 bid. Wow.

Sticker price, $3400, actual sale price, $2400, insurance price, $6000. Be careful with insurance... Add $200 to each number if you’ve still got the original box and grips to toss into the deal.

A Colt Python from your father? I would put the value at approximately the same as the Colt .45 ACP that I inherited from my uncle: priceless.

Best response so far. Sir, that revolver is priceless based on what you said about it.

I KNOW! You're totally right.

That's why I'd take a picture of it!

Then if I get tons of cash for it and blow it on stupid stuff, at least I'll be able to remember how cool it was that he did that.

So, I fail at the internet.

I had one of those in blued steel in the 1980s and sold it for the very fair price of $500 back then because I needed the money. They’d be well over $1000 today in that condition.

Based only on some searches, looks like a good starting asking price is $3100 or so. Wouldn’t go below $2500.

Truth be told, I wouldn’t sell it.
