A Calgary mother who claimed her white family was the victim of racialized bullying in a mostly black neighbourhood hosted a community barbecue on Saturday with the hope of bringing the areas children together.
Blair France and her husband moved into Shaganappi Village, a southwest affordable housing complex in November. But the couple says their family, which consists of two girls ages seven and 12, and an eight-month-old son, have been bullied by other children in the neighbourhood. France said there have been instances where scores of children have gathered on her lawn, screaming and throwing rocks at her familys home.
They have racially slurred my children, France said. Theyve called my children white crackers, one boy that I found out called (my daughter) a marshmallow and white-skinned people and that were poor and stuff like that. Were all in poverty, so we have to all understand that.

“They have Coloured people in Canada?”
Imported direct from Squatomalia!
Back then, I assumed Shaganappi was some old Indian name, which it is. I'm sure Mike Myers could have some fun with the name, but no one in Calgary thinks anything of it.
White neighbors said they didn’t think racism is the problem, but lack of parental attention to the kids. Any difference provokes bullying by the neighborhood kids, like all kids without supervision. The other conclusion of the article is that throwing money at the problem will not change it. That’s what the neighbors say, don’t flame me.
This will not have a happy ending.
I used to coach inner city youth track and field in the eighties and had the nickname “Snowball”. Still had no trouble in the neighborhoods where I coached, and also tutored math and science (this is before academics was overwhelmingly considered acting white).
They harass her racially and she invites them to lunch. Turn the races around, and al sharpton’s marching.
There are plenty of black Americans who get a kick out of goofing on white people in an affectionate way. I always responded in kind to their humor. When I volunteered in Vet Hospitals in NYC in the early 90s, blacks always called me “Snow White” because of my pale skin and jet black hair. How I loved those guys!
