I don't know much about Trump, but in general I feel that too many in the upper echelons of American business have been short-term thinkers without vision for how best to keep the US at the top of the world in innovation and industry.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I feel that the captains of industry should be thinking about sustainability, growth, and leading the world in innovation - not just about what the next two quarters will look like to the stockholders. If the American auto industry had been thinking this way, maybe they wouldn't have had to be bailed out by the taxpayers. I know that labor unions have contributed to the mess in some industries, but I think it goes well beyond that.

What you are saying is true in manufacturing industries like auto’s, appliances, etc.

On the other hand everything Trump invests money in is VERY LONG TERM. For example he builds world class golf resorts. He acquires a property which is under stress, at bargain prices, then spends huge amounts of money to transform the resort many levels higher. The payoff is never immediate. It is after many years. Ditto when Trump builds a commercial building. It takes many years from start to finish. And more years to make a profit.
