Thanks for posting and your Thank You to all the vets. My love of gardening came from my Dad Ed, WWII navy vet who served on the DD442 USS Nicholson, a destroyer escort. Uncle Nick who was killed at Anzio, Uncle Pete, Coast Guard, Aunt Draji and Uncle Michael, Army. She was a sergeant. Grandfather Joe WWI vet. Father in Law Will ,WWII B24 pilot, other Uncles on hubbys side not sure what branches. Cousins Vietnam, Mom worked in a war plant sorting parts picking out bad ones in New Jersey. She was really good at inspection. AND hubby Tim US Army watercraft pilot. God bless all our vets. I know I can never fully appreciate having never served, what they have done for the rest of us.

Now on to the gardening, my garden is kicking butt this year. We had a couple of cold nights but all I lost was some green onions, no biggie. I put plastic juice jugs over my tomato plants which are still pretty small. I still have some empty space to fill and will get some pictures soon. I have had to do pretty much all the yardwork while hubby recuperates. Tomorrow the barn gets painted, well maybe half of it.

If I could have one wish this weekend it would be to be able to get to Chicago and visit some graves and lay some flowers. It won't happen but I am hopeful sometime this summer I can go.

And PS to Johnny, THANK YOU for your service and Happy Memorial Day!

My Dad was especially partial to Roses. They had a very small yard, but lots of plants and Roses more than anything else, but hunting and fishing was his biggest passions.

He was in the Coast Guard too during WWII. On the seas for months without seeing land - escorting ships. His ship was the Moberly. They participated in the sinking of the last German submarine off the coast of New England - Point Judith Light, along with the Atherton.

My brother was in the Navy during the Vietnam era, but he was lucky, and got stationed in Hawaii.
