Menuet's kernel includes pre-emptive multitasking support and the super-compact operating system includes an impressive GUI
MenuetOS, a GUI-toting, x86-based operating system written entirely in assembly language, has hit version 1.0.
The milestone comes after almost a decade and a half of development for the operating system, which despite having an impressive graphical user interface is still compact enough to fit on a floppy disk (assuming you can find one).
The 32-bit version of the system is released as open source until the GPL, while the 64-bit version is free for personal and educational use (commercial use requires negotiating with the MenuetOS team).

No idea. I do not see any reference in the article either.
Actually, now that I think about it I believe the x86 chipset is Big endian hardware.
They offer it on a boot CD as well, although I do not know if the (zipped) CD is bootable or if you need to load a “boot CD” proggie first.
Bewdy. Looks nice. :) How is the speed?
Pretty zippy, even in a VM. I haven’t figured out how to get it to install to the virtual hard disk yet though. It’s still running from the floppy image. It looks pretty cool though. Kinda reminds me of a TinyLinux distro I installed some time ago. On my system that one goes from power on to running instance in 10 seconds or so.
Impressive. That was quite fast indeed.
I may have to set aside some time very soon to play with it a bit and find out more about it. :)
