The article doesn't read that the vaccine was designed for illness other than measles. It just suggests that exposure to the virus in the vaccine "...may protect against other diseases" so one wonders if exposure to the measles virus strengthens the immune system against measles as well as other illness.

Only because having measles lowers one's immune system, which supposedly lasts longer than was once suspected; as per the article.
Having had the measles, I can tell you that it didn't "protect" me from having the chicken pox six months later.
