I remember doing the exact same thing in Jr. High.
Fifty years ago we were warned not to buy SLAYMAKER brand locks for our gym lockers as they were junk.
Unfortunately, Slaymaker was the only brand the local store handled.
I still use a Master lock from my gym locker (25 years old or so) it wss handy to test this.
Tried and the suggestions were nowhere near the correct combo.
Unless you added one to one of the suggested #2 numbers and #3 number, subtracted one from the #1 number. (Could be “play” from 25 years of use) Then enter the combo in the order #3, #1, #2.... which I don’t think is right.
You can cut a "shim" out of a soda can that will do the job with no dial tinkering at all. Video on you tube unless its been yanked. It works on regular "keyed" locks as well. You can also use "shims" to unlock handcuffs.
