Look, we all know that Master combo locks are not paragons of security. But, damn, this looks easy. In a new video, hacker Samy Kamkar demonstrates a dead simple trick that he claims can break into most Master combo locks in just a few tries.
Its so easy because Kamkar has done all the hard work for you, reverse-engineering the lock to narrow down the possible combinations to just eight. All you have to do is go to input three numbers into Kamkars algorithm. Heres how you get the numbers:
1. While lifting the locked shackle, turn the knob counterclockwise starting at the number 0. Between 0 and 11, the lock will catch in three places. Two out of three will be straddling a number. Record those two and ignore the one that is not.
2. Now lift the shackle again and turn the knob clockwise, until you encounter resistance. This is is your third number.
You type in these three numbers, and the algorithm spits out the first and third digits of the combination along with eight choices for the second. Now its just a matter of trying them all.

Eight tries? Bolt cutters work in one.

I’ll give this a test.. I have a bunch of old locks I have forgotten the combination.
I remember doing the exact same thing in Jr. High.
CRS is terrible, isn’t it?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Yep. I followed Rocky’s lead once in college and used a fire extinguisher. BAM! The lock even re-locked when I was done.
Lol. Leverage is your friend.
Where i come from it’s called the “master key”.
Smart alek! Let’s see how you do when you get to my age..
They dont re-lock when i’m dome. They dont even look like a lock anymore.
Fifty years ago we were warned not to buy SLAYMAKER brand locks for our gym lockers as they were junk.
Unfortunately, Slaymaker was the only brand the local store handled.
I still use a Master lock from my gym locker (25 years old or so) it wss handy to test this.
Tried and the suggestions were nowhere near the correct combo.
Unless you added one to one of the suggested #2 numbers and #3 number, subtracted one from the #1 number. (Could be “play” from 25 years of use) Then enter the combo in the order #3, #1, #2.... which I don’t think is right.
You can cut a "shim" out of a soda can that will do the job with no dial tinkering at all. Video on you tube unless its been yanked. It works on regular "keyed" locks as well. You can also use "shims" to unlock handcuffs.

Thank you for your service to our country, I really do appreciate all that have served. And I’m no spring chicken myself. In my seventh decade on this rock we call earth.
I bet some of the fine citizens of Baltimore can crack it in fewer than 8 tries....
