The statement also says that political leaders of all UN member states have a special responsibility to agree at COP21 to a bold climate agreement that confines global warming to a limit safe for humanity, while protecting the poor and the vulnerable from ongoing climate change that gravely endangers their lives.

The Pope ought to stick to Pontificating about whatever he knows about — that in itself will reduce hot air. One good volcanic eruption will void any puny human efforts to moderate the weather.

“In fact, IIRC our last last chance came over half a dozen years ago.”
Yes, over the years I recall several “warnings” along the lines of “if we don’t act by such and such a date, then it’ll bee too late to stop ‘global warming’.
Of course, no actual actions have actually been taken, and because “global warming” stopped over 17 years ago, I’m thinking that doing nothing has been quite effective at “stopping global warming”, so therefore the most effective course for “stopping global warming” is to keep on doing nothing to “stop” it.

Good. If we can’t take effective action, there won’t be any point in talking about it anymore.

He should be more concerned about saving Christianity as well as saving souls.

"Seems every year is the last chance."
Assuming climate change is still cyclic, 2015 could be the last change if the climate's about to dive cooler. I'd expect temperatures to linger at their peak for a while before the cycle takes them down.
