A woman was hit in the back of the head by a foul ball in Monday night's Cubs-Pirates game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The woman was standing in the first row behind home plate with her back toward the field when Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro fouled a ball straight back against the protective screen. The ball was hit with such force that it struck the fan. She immediately collapsed grabbing her head.
After initial treatment by PNC Park and Pittsburgh EMS personnel, she was placed on a stretcher, moved to a nearby ambulance and brought to the hospital for further treatment.
"She was conscious and alert at the time of transport, graciously thanking her caregivers while giving a 'thumbs up' gesture to nearby fans," the Pirates said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her."

That's pretty stupid.
Her head also must have been pretty close to the netting?
Why I choose to sit in the nose-bleed section at Yankee Stadium.
She wasn’t standing still, but moving across the row facing the people she was passing.

What are the odds?! I hope she’s okay.
It looks like she was returning to her seat.
I always say it. You have to keep your eye on the ball. You can’t make a play if you don’t see it coming.
Didn’t bother watching the video, did you?
About the same odds as three years ago of the Cubs and Pirates occupying two of the three top spots in their division.
It does give another reason besides courtesy to not step in front of others while the ball is in play...
Haha! She’s probably better off she had her head turned away. Wouldn’t had been pretty if she was facing the play.
Hope she’s okay.
What are the odds of being hit by a foul ball that way?
They have the protective netting for that very reason. But the netting apparently stretches out and hit her anyway.
Ballparks will now have to put up stronger fencing or nets or plexi glass behind home plate.
Remember a girl got hit by a hockey puck at a Columbus Blue Jackets game a few years ago, and died? If I recall correcly hockey teams increaed the height of plexiglass around the ice after that.
They also installed netting.
LOL!!!!!
I couldn’t see the net. I’m sure it’s there, but maybe my eyes are bad, or the camera makes it hard to see the net. I think changes will be made art this.
*After
No, I did not.
But I don’t have to watch a video to know that it is foolish to turn your back on the field of play at a baseball game.
Normally, I agree, but she is behind a net barrier that is supposed to stop exactly this occurrence. I think she has a liability case.
