Vanity post.
My first, and probably only, as I am not prone to doing so. I read FR mostly on my Android phone. Recently the thread comments are showing up in an impossibly small font height. The initial post, the plea for donations, as well as some comments are in a legible size, but most comments are unreadable. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a recent Android bug? I am logged in, and am going to take a shower while I wait to try and read the impossibly small replies from fellow FReepers.
What you are experiencing is a signal of web incompetence. We contribute good dollars to FR, offer a helpful suggestion and get flamed for the effort. The site is great, the software is from the stone age, and the moderators need a little customer satisfaction training. Too bad most you who, like me, don't have a real computer, cannot read this.
How has he fixed it and why do I still have the problem?
Same problem. Just started recently. Happens on Chrome for Android and Mercury. Started after an update.
If you set your font size to 0 you can defeat the Shannon Limit.
There seemed to be a coding problem introduced in the FReeperthon banner announcement at the top of each page. The banner announcement before the fix had a box around it. The updated announcement is just text.
After Jim messaged that the problem was fixed, I still had the problem for just a bit. My guess is that the old coding was in my cache.
My question for you: Are you still seeing the box around the announcement? If so, you may have to clear your cache. If not, and the text is still varied in size throughout the page, then I’m not sure what is going on.
Thanks much.
Yes, I’m still getting it despite there no longer being a box around the FReeperthon banner. Just emptied my cache, closed out of Chrome and restarted my laptop here with Windows 8.1—but the fonts are still problematically small and sprawling.
Just curious. Does the issue exist also when you go to older threads without the Freepathon message?
It’s not on the front comments page, but it is on the my comments page—and also on a thread from March 5th that I just tried.
The recent FReeperthon announcement caused some replies to be in standard text and some replies to be very teeny on Android devices using Chrome.
I don’t think that’s the same thing you have going on with a Windows laptop. With my Windows laptop, FR on Chrome naturally gives very small text, but you can increase the size of the text by holding down Ctrl and pressing +. Every time you press +, the text will get larger. Pressing Ctrl with - makes the text smaller, and Ctrl with 0 [zero] puts the text back to the original size.
Will that fix things for you?
No, it’s ridiculously tiny text now, not just the usual small text. And when you increase it by pressing the +, which is what I end up doing, the length of line from the tiny text just gets bigger, so you have to keep scrolling across the page to read a single line of text.
That sucks.
What version of Chrome are you using? I’m running Version 42.0.2311.90 m.
So am I.
Do you have Windows 8.1?
Is it possible that a Chrome extension is causing the problem?
Yes, Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite S50 laptop.
Huh. Yeah, I guess it is. I can try disabling things to see if I can find a culprit.
In a way, it would have been easier if it were FR, not me—but strange how it kicked in at the same time the mobile folks were having the same type of problem.
I can’t seem to freep on my iPhone 6 for the same reason, the fonts are too small and I won’t wrap-around scroll left right for each line.
It only works well on the atomic web browser. You can choose a font size for each website. So I use Atomic Web just for freeping.
Keep me updated. I hope it’s just an errant extension.
My Android Chrome browser seems to be back to normal after JR’s fix last night.
Seems ok to me now.
Jimrob, thanks for whatever you did.
Thanks. So I tried disabling my two, paltry extensions—PasswordBox and Avast. Recleared the cache, passwords, cookies, and history—to still no good result.
Seems like I’m living in my own private FR hell right now.
