Nearly 1 million people in the U.S. bought an Apple Watch on the first day of preorders, according to data company Slice Intelligence.
Slice found that that 957,000 Americans preordered the smartwatch on Friday's launch. Those customers won't be getting the actual smartwatch until April 24 at the earliest when Apple starts shipping them.
Compared to the 720,000 Android Wear devices sold in 2014, Apple had a great turnout for just one day.
"Customers have been giving us great feedback and orders have been great, as well," CEO Tim Cook told CNBC.
Slice gathered its data from a panel of 2 million online shoppers. The data shows that 62% of consumers purchased the Apple Watch Sport, which is the cheapest variant at $328.83. Slice reported that each buyer ordered an average of 1.3 watches, spending $503.83 per device.

I’m going to guess a lot of those buyers live on government handouts and call us terrorists...
This is the epitomy of a useless gadget for people who have way too much money. I don’t know if it does anything that the iphone doesn’t do, and it’s so nice to deal with a larger screen. I bet the days of the 20 year old watch are over though as Apple will now be “updating” the software every year, and of course, you need several iwatches for different color coordination!
I am not surprised that consumers are falling for it. Then they wonder why they can’t make ends meet!
I don’t see a difference in function between the android or apple watches.
I find it odd people would want to wear the identical fashion watch. There are no body design choices for apple.
Androids are boring too.
This has all the “coolness” of the geeky casio calculator watches.
RE: This is the epitomy of a useless gadget for people who have way too much money.
Hmmm... a million people have way too much money?
it is a “me too” device imitating the fitbit and functions as a second screen for the iphone.
The key is can it be sustained.
jSanders, you are nuts.
would not trade my Lord Elgin 14K 17 jewel windup for 10 of these Apple casio clocks.uggggglee

Yep. Apple has always been a very liberal product company.
Yup,more than a million.Twenty thousand Starbucks worldwide charging $9 for a cup of coffee is proof.
I don't think Apple could sell belly button lint. Apple cultists already have theirs saved up in Mason jars.
not interested, looks stupid, plus, why would I want to support a company that promotes sodomy?
> jSanders, you are nuts.
And I used to be sane before visiting this site. Go figure...: )
There’s truth in what you say..
I have a 20 year old Dakota watch. IT TELLS THE TIME. And that’s all I need.
It needed a new battery once and I got it at a local store.
Yes!, Isn't it amazing what people can't do without today? When I was a kid the only people you saw carrying around water in a container were on a hike in the mountains, desert or in battle.
When I was a kid people could go for hours and hours without having to rush to a phone, now everyone needs not just a phone but a smart phone so they can can text brilliant things like LOL, LMAO while watching youtube while keeping their brains jacked into the internet and watching the idiot tube 24/7, and apparently this so dehydrates them that they must carry a plastic container of water wherever they go.
I think it is awesome. I have Apple product but I am not a watch wearer, but if this is not the true form of Capitalism then we are done for. I love when a company is successful. We all should be.
