When military aviation buffs pack into the Marine Corps Beaufort Air Show in South Carolina, they'll be wowed by the Navy's Blue Angels. But a new kind of history will also take flight in the team: a woman in the cockpit. U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Katie Higgins is the first female pilot in the team's 69-year history. Michelle Miller took to the sky to see how Higgins got her wings.

No,not true. There are many things that women can do just as well as men. There are more than a few things that women can do *better* than men...and the reverse is also true.Men and women are equal in the eyes of God and are of equal value to humanity.
However, one of the several things that men can do better than women is warfare. If I had a link I'd give it to you but...a few years ago I saw a documentary on Marine recruit training. They followed two platoons of recruits..one male, the other female. It was claimed that these two platoons were undergoing the *exact* same training...no special consideration for the women. After a particularly grueling day of training (can't recall exactly what they did that day) both the men and women were interviewed for their reactions...men first. The men were obviously tried and sore and several of them spoke of being discouraged and dispirited. The women were, during their interview, crying like little girls. With God as my Judge that's exactly what happened.
I've never been in,or near,combat...the most dangerous thing *I* was ever ordered to do during my stellar Army "career" was eat Army chow. However,it's easy to imagine how having a weeping woman right next to me during a firefight just might create difficulties....if ya catch my drift.

They are having to lower the standards to get women into commando units now.
Saw them last summer over Lake Washington, Seattle - great show
I nominate this as FR's "Post Of The Day"! ROTFL!
There should not be separate titles for sports where the physical differences don’t play a role. Of those you list obviously chess and billiards, possibly bowling, which is more a game of finesse and precision and strength.
For golf and most other sports, the very best women compete on roughly the top high school athlete level for men.
On looking at it again, the dominance of men in chess may very well illustrate actual mental differences between the sexes. I suspect it’s an example of the way men are much more diverse in mental characteristics than women.
While men and women are equal in average IQ, far more men are found on each end of the bell curve. Many more geniuses, and many more morons. The female IQ bell curve is taller and thinner.
Possibly something similar applies with the weird mental characteristics needed to play chess at the championship level.
Or quite possibly fewer women are weird enough to do what it takes to become that proficient at chess.
The Blue Angels are coming to an Air Force base near me next month. Can't wait!
Right.
Except making sammiches, though. Women are better than men at making sammiches.
Because they should be making sammiches.
Hm?...Let me guess. You didn't get into medical school because a **girl** had better grades and MCAT scores than you.
The Israeli forces have women pilots. I don’t think PC is an issue there. I’ve read some articles about them and they are excellent pilots.
Everyone needs to see them at least once
It is interesting,...on the sections of IQ tests requiring spacial relationships, ( those questions with the blocks stacked in odd way,) i scored in the highest ninety percentiles. I believe I did so well because of massive amount of practice I had reading sewing patterns and constructing clothing.
As long as she doesn’t have to parallel park the thing :)
Israel's a special case. It's a nation of about 3 million that's literally surrounded by 100 million sworn enemies.Of course they have to utilize every able bodied person.
Here’s the odd thing about IQ scores. They measure capabilities, not skills. Or at least that’s the theory.
So it’s at least as likely you enjoyed sewing and were good at it because you had the spacial reasoning capabilities needed.
The whole idea behind the abilities measured by IQ tests is that you can’t improve your score by practicing.
I am agnostic as to whether these theories are entirely accurate.
It also seems to me that great skill with chess has characteristics in common with autism. And men are found on the autism spectrum at a rate at least 4x that of women.
It took a long time in the video to get to that fact.
Canada has had many problems with females flying. Most notably one could not wrestle a herc into the air without help, another can’t land an f-18 to save her life.
