The Apple Watch was 'largely sold out' in just 10 minutes

All models of the Apple Watch sold out just hours after preorders officially started.

But, a new note from Apple analyst Gene Munster at Piper Jaffray suggests it only took minutes for certain versions to sell out.

It appears that based on our observations and media reports, launch day supply (April 24th) was largely sold out within the first 10 to 30 minutes depending on model. Most lead times now suggest a 4-6 week or June/July ship date. Overall we view this as an indication of solid demand paired with very limited supply, with supply being the most significant limiting factor. We continue to expect modest sales in the June quarter (2.3m units) as demand ramps over time, with Dec-16 a breakout period. We maintain our Overweight rating and $160 price target.

Strong initial demand for the Apple Watch isn't terribly surprising. Apple's built-in fan base, combined with its earned reputation for excellence all but guarantees an initial surge of sales.

Indeed, days before pre-orders started, Apple's SVP of retail, Angela Ahrendts, warned: "Based on the tremendous interest from people visiting our stores, as well as the number of customers who have gone to the Apple Online Store to mark their favorite Apple Watch ahead of availability, we expect that strong customer demand will exceed our supply at launch.”

Until we know how many were available, this headline is meaningless.

Piper Jaffray expects 10m units a year, which would be double the entire unit volume of the top 10 Android smartwatch makers, and 10x Samsung's watch sales. That would be impressive.

They didnt make that many so they could get simps in the media to write that exact headline.

The thing has been known about for the past 8 months, and anyone is actually stupid enough to think that they would not have manufactured more than enough?

Visit Wash DC and adjacent surroundings.

It's America's Wealth Factory

Turns taxpayer money and fake created money into high salaries.

While I agree it's a toy, just like the Android smartwatches, because it has to be charged daily, $350 isn't very much money. 40m Americans buy iPhones per year for about $200 + a phone contract (which is really a way of putting it on the credit card without a credit card). People can afford it. The question is whether they'll want to put up with the same inconveniences they have to deal with for smartphones (a daily charge and obsolescence every two years) in a watch.

I’m actually considering getting the 42 mm aluminum Apple Watch Sport (Space Gray watchband). But I’ll wait until the software updates fix any known issues and availability is better.

There are apps in the medical/health field which IMHO are real sleepers.

Continuous blood pressure and pulse rate monitoring are just a baby step, but for people with heart conditions even these could be a lifesaver.

I can easily imagine an app that notifies the wearer of an impending heart attack and calls 911.

There is already a business in medallions that older people wear to be able to summon assistance in the even of a fall or other emergency. The watch does that and a whole lot more.

Either of those applications is easily worth the price of the watch for the right customers.

This is an initial model, not as useful as it will be in 5 years, but I see a huge potential.

"Until we know how many were available, this headline is meaningless."

And the thread is useless until it has pictures of hour glassed shaped beautiful women.

Awesome! What a great company. I love Apple. My life changed significantly when I bought my first Apple MacBook in 2009. After years of virus’ using those stupid other computers, I was told by a friend to try an Apple so I did and it has been the best decision in my life. Went to an IPhone in 2012 (updated in 2014), IPad, Apple TV (Which is Incredibly great). I don’t know about the Apple Watch but who knows.

in the interest of disclosure, I use a 20 year old Mac every day, along with the stuff I *have* to use at work, but BTW, I have no interest in owning a so-called smart phone (possibly in the same way I used to have no interest in owning a cell phone), and the Apple Watch appears to me to be a solution in search of a problem, appealing to the Koolaid drinkers. The incoherent, inchoate animus directed to Apple -- allegedly for reasons that apply at least as strongly to all other brands -- remains both distasteful and a puzzle. big glass of reality: Samsung circling the drain: haters gonna hate: this was the most intriguing announcment in the recent big reveal from Apple (when I work, I work in health care): and here's some good news for all you LINOs (Libertarians in Name Only) out there: and bravo!
