The video appears to be damning: a white police officer fatally shooting a black man in the back as he ran away.
The shooting of Walter Scott by North Charleston, S.C., police Officer Thomas Stager has generated national outrage. Stager has been fired and charged with murder.
Legal and police tactics experts said the video would be powerful evidence in the criminal case. But they say it still leaves Stagers defense with options.
One likely defense focus will be what is not on the video. The interaction between Scott and Stager before the shooting is not seen, nor is the traffic stop that began the incident. Defense attorneys will probably push on this, the experts said, telling jurors that the video doesnt tell the whole story.
What was the conversation and interaction between the officer and the subject? said retired Los Angeles police Capt. Greg Meyer. Why did the subject run away?

Your fleeing felon claim does not apply here.
The man was not a threat to the cop or anyone else.
The cop has been charged with murder because the video surfaced two days after the “routine” shooting, and the minute it did, his lawyer quit the case.
Was this jackwagon toting an AK? - NO
Or how about running to a car to get away?
Nope. No reason to shoot someone in the back who is running to a car to get away. You give chase, on foot or in your patrol vehicle. Excluding war efforts, only cowards shoot someone in the back.
Thx!
I agree. Look at all the people cheering the notion that an apropriate way to handle a fleeing man is to shoot him eight times and then plant a weapon on the body.
Sure are a lot of shitheads judging the corpse to have been guilty, and they are glad he is dead.
However the "good" news is that the number of people stopped by the police who decide to turn their backs and run will be down, way down.
You asked if it would make it a "fair fight". I said no, for the reason stated. Lol.
I agree it doesn’t apply here. That rule/policy is intended for use with dangerous people who will go out and hurt other people unless they are stopped.
Expired tags not so much.
The Police still don’t have a right to shoot an unarmed man in the back!
Does the Constitution guarantee him a trial?
Or does the Constitution provide for summary executions for expired tags?
“Theres no more to the story.”
Really? You have read the officer’s report and the second on scene’s report?
The little matter of an outstanding warrant that popped up when the DL was called in .
Officer put subject under arrest, than the fight started.
I care no what color you are or the cop is, if you or anyone starts a fight after being told you are under arrest, your chances of surviving the incident just dropped dramatically.
This cop will never wear a badge again, but he is entitled to a fair trial, just like every other American.
Remember that little “Innocent until proven guilty” part of our legal system?
Oh, cut it out!
“The Police still dont have a right to shoot an unarmed man in the back!”
No, but they have the power.
Ya know.....The perp is running...its not like yu don’t know who he is,ya got his car and stuff..let his ass go...Let’em chill out realize he is screwed and arrest him ASAP.
Shooting him in the back is a bit to much ASAP
Cop F’ed up
Yea, maybe the victim was really an alien invader.
“Remember that little Innocent until proven guilty part of our legal system?”
You mean the part that was denied the dead man?
Have you even watched the video?
Well, I have never ran from a cop and if I did I would expect to get shot. That old innocent til proven guilty is just so old fashioned.
Seems like you are a pretty quick shot yourself and then to accuse me of being a racist sounds awful familiar.
“You have read the officers report and the second on scenes report?”
The report the cop lied in?
That is what he will be considered at trial.
