I enjoyed Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ".
I didn’t watch it - my 10-yr old TV burned out last night and in Oil Patch City the only place to buy a replacement is Wal-Mart. Based on comments I heard before it was aired, they deliberately tried to make it as un-religious as possible so I probably wouldn’t have watched anyway.
That's because the vast majority of Mel's work was Biblical. He did do a little bit of dramatic license like with portraying Satan as a woman, but even that did not take away anything from the impact of the movie.
When I see Jesus portrayed, He better be as close to the real deal as possible.
It makes me think that Bill O'Reilly was sitting around one day saying, "Huh, Mel made a billion on that Jesus story. Maybe I could get a piece of the pie."
Either do it right and follow the Bible to the letter or don't bother.
Since you mention Mel Gibson, I must add that it would seem that Ridly Scott raided Mel’s costume and prop closet for this production! (Especially Herod’s outfit and the Pharisees!)
But what I really found troubling was the portrayal of Jesus Himself. Since the actor was a Muslim, I didn’t expect a particularly reverend portrayal, but this guy played Jesus as a clueless bumpkin who had no idea who he was.
Even a perfunctory reading of the Gospels would reveal that, at least from the time He was 12, Jesus knew EXACTLY Who He was.
And from the early chapters of the Gospel of Luke, Mary, Elizabeth, John the Baptist, Joseph, Simeon and Anna knew TOO.
I was offended...are Christians ALLOWED to get “offended”? LOL!
