KCAL9’s Tom Wait reports the practice of skateboarding at high speeds on the mountain road is a practice called “Hill Bombing.” It’s not new. Pat Harvey reported on the practice back in 2012.
Officials said the deceased was going 20-30 mph on his skateboard at the time of the collision.
The deceased was wearing safety gear but he failed to remain in his lane and struck the undercarriage of the dump truck, which then ran over him, CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said.
The deceased was hill bombing with two other skateboarders and a van driver. Officials said no charges will be filed against them.

Hmm, wearing safety gear on a typically deserted stretch of road with a follow van and another (for lack of a better term) participant. Seems to be lacking the typical 'hold my beer' required for a proper Darwinian winner.
Glendora Mountain Road was closed to cars for nearly two years there, and has become a favorite with bicycle clubs, joggers and hikers. Weekday traffic from 9am to 3pm could likely be counted on a single hand.
Our Cub Scouts witnessed the same thing, but without death. We were taking the Pack up in the mountains for some bike riding. Going up the very windy, slow road, we went around a blind sharp left turn. A bombing downhill bicyclist lost control, went down, and slid right under the van. I was expecting a big CRUNCH but our alert driver stopped just before the rear tire rolled over him. We sure had a lot of wide-eyed Scouts who all learned a good lesson.
He had a skateboarder get killed doing this on campus.
Um...no. My friends & I were luging in the mid-to-late 70s on custom skateboards. It wasn't hard to find restricted roadways where there was no traffic. Doing it where there was traffic was just plain dumb; parked cars were hazard enough. We invented 'luging' and others named it, but I have no knowledge of any movie that comes close to stimulating it other than Airborne...never saw SLWM...

We live on a bit of a curvy hill, and see teens skateboarding very frequently -- and it's not unusual for some of 'em to have their phones in front of their noses as both hands are texting away.

When I was much younger I used to bicycle race all over the country. I averaged 10,000 miles a year on my bicycles at that time.
Getting through corners and steep turns quickly was one of the things that I practiced. Often when finding your limits you go a little past them and are left with the scars to remind you later.
One time when riding in the winter; when I put the brakes on to stop for a stoplight, I hit some black ice and immediately found myself on the ground and slid all the way through an intersection with a busy 4 lane road. Fortunately, it was early and there was no traffic.
Another time it was raining hard and I hit some gravel on a fairly sharp corner and slid all the way across the road and into the ditch on the other side. When I got I picked a large piece of gravel out of my elbow that I still have an impressive scar from... 35 years later.
There were many other crashes some during races where half a dozen other riders ran over me. But the two I mentioned were the most memorable because at the time I felt so lucky that a car or truck hadn’t hit me.

We have a hilly and windy single lane road that cyclists love to ride on. While it’s not illegal, it’s STUPID. Round a curve and blam! there’s an idiot in yellow spandex right there struggling to get up the hill.
The accident occurred on the road to Burro Canyon Shooting Park. Somehow the anti-2A idiots will blame the gun range for causing the death and try to force it to close.
If you’re going to Burro Canyon via Glendora Mountain Road, there’s a massive shortcut just going up Azusa Ave. The accident was just uphill where many park to enjoy the Colby trail. Then again, you might be taking GMR to avoid the annoying any excuse pullovers by the LA County sheriff deputies on Azusa and RTE 39 which seem to disproportionally find reason to pull over people with NRA stickers.
