Chuck Bednarik, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the last great two-way NFL players, has died. He was 89.
A star linebacker and center, Bednarik helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the 1960 NFL championship, tackling Green Bays Jim Taylor on the final play to seal the victory. The top overall pick in the 1949 draft out of Penn, he spent 14 seasons as one of the toughest and most feared players in the game.

Yes, Lou ran an insurance agency in Cleveland.

Yea, you're right, he was Slovak. My bad. The Carpathian Mountains do separate Poland from Slovakia. Being called a Czech might be fighting words to some old Slovaks though. LOL

...also the folsom team used leather helmets until after we no longer played and i remember the youngsters getting the plastic ones.My first (in 1957) high school football helmet was a reconditioned leather one, with a single bar faceguard added. It was one of the sort of small-end egg shaped kind, felt as hard as plastic on the outside and it did keep my head in one piece.

The 1960 team was the only professional team ever to beat Vince Lombardi in a title game. He didn't lose, he just ran out of time.
