I had a CJ-5 that I bought from a friend in about ‘83. It was, I think, a ‘77. Had the high back bucket, 4 sp.(most were 3 spd’s) and the 304v-8. Dang thing would fly and go pretty much anywhere. No power steering and that was a bitch. No air either.

For those that don’t know, you can tell a CJ-5 from a 7 in passing by the hump in the doors in the 5. If I remember right they quit making the 5 because the extreme short wheelbase made it pretty darn easy to roll over. I should know. I had mine on 2 wheels a couple of times.

Sorry, no pics. I sold it in about ‘86. Wish I still had it. The thing about those jeeps were, if you weren’t made of money you better know how to work on one.

Didn’t they stretch the CJ7 in order to use a new transmission and transfer case? One of my brothers had three Jeeps at one time and would know I guess but he works a night shift so I shouldn’t call him.

That and if you were 6 foot tall your shins were scraping the dashboard.
