If you see an old military one, you are lucky. In the 80s, I worked on the ranges and we uses them all the time. They would go anywhere—simply the best 4x4 ever!
Sad thing was that we also had to “demil”in-the-crate jeeps. We started out cutting them in half, but people just welded them back together. Eventually, they had us running M60s over them and selling only to scrappers. I despise Ralph Nader and the nanny state that he engendered!
I despise old Ralphie too.
The local reenactment crowd whom I haven’t visited in a couple of years had one or two. Another sits at Owens airfield with the restored B25.
One piece of trivia I have never seen mentioned is that you could get an M151 inside an LVTP7 amtrac. Saw them put the jeeps into some of the tractors and then load the tractors onto railroad flat cars for movements.
Saw four flipped M151 accidents with two being fatal. I did not drive one much but I was careful after seeing those.
