Actually, I’m Canadian, eh! I do have some ancestors who lived in ‘ole Virginny’, but they chose the wrong ‘George’ during that little ‘dust up’ that was resolved by the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Because they supported George William Frederick, commonly known as King George III rather than that Washington fellow, they lost all their possessions. This included a large farm and livestock. They were forced to leave for Quebec, later homesteading (once again) near Prescott, Ontario. This time, they SOLD it, rather than having it taken away, as a war prize.
I have relatives who used to use the honourific ‘U. E.’ (for United Empire Loyalist) after their name.
