Men who open doors for women are as guilty of sexism as those who are rude to them, according to a new study.
Psychologists found that a friendly or chivalrous attitude can mask chauvinistic and patronizing views because the men see females as weak creatures in need of their protection.
They warned that this benevolent sexism was harder to spot than the hostile version borne out of an open antipathy.
Jin Goh, a psychologist from Northeastern University, Boston, in the U.S., said: While many people are sensitive to sexist verbal offences, they may not readily associate sexism with warmth and friendliness. Unless sexism is understood as having both hostile and benevolent properties, the insidious nature of benevolent sexism will continue to be one of the driving forces behind gender inequality.

Women study on men: You’re screwed no matter what you do for us.
...for instance, the latest feminist obsessive delusion that we have a rampant "rape culture." How many rapists do you know? None, probably, just as you probably don't know very many carjackers personally. Yet carjackers exist just as rapists exist, but we never hear about America's "carjacking culture."
What the leftists don’t get is that you really really don’t want men en-mass to stop thinking of women as “because the men see females as weak creatures in need of their protection”. Seriously you don’t. The alternative isn’t for men to stop thinking of women as weaker. It really isn’t. The alternative is that men stop thinking of protecting them. There comes time and places in a man’s life when you are confronted by a women being ‘weaker’. It does not happen all the time, or even most of the time, but when it does happen you really want men to be programed to PROTECT and not exploit. Leftists are befuddled by this concept.
Jin Goh is a Phd candidate at the university and has no real life experience, what does he know about chivalry?

Well, YES, but we aren’t supposed to SAY that...what on earth are you trying to do here?

EQUAL BUT ENTITLED
I always stand when wife comes & goes from a dinner table. I know half the other women there are impressed and the other half’s heads want to explode. I do it mostly out of spite to make that half’s heads explode (after the respecting wifie part of course).
My husband and I debated the wisdom of teaching our sons to automatically open doors for women. We decided to tell them that as young men, God gave them strong bodies to help out anyone who needed help when they could. Their dad and I set the example and expected them to act in the same way when they passed babyhood. I noticed that most white men and women do a great job of knowing when to step in and help out so it was easy to socialize my sons. Whites usually acknowledge the kindness of strangers. Won’t say what else I noticed...
Jin can Goh to hell IMO.
Everybody in Texas opens doors for everyone else, men, women, children- it doesn’t matter. I’m a big, burly (ok, portly) man, and I’ve often had men open doors for me, and I often old doors open for other men- and we almost all say “Thank ya, sir” as we go through. We, of course, also open doors for women, of all ages races, and appearances. If they are attractive women, well- that’s just a bonus :)
That’s just crazy. I love men opening doors, etc for me. I guess you could say I enjoy being girl. Women didn’t have sense enough to know when they had it made. Women’s Lib..boo.
I agree 100%, and I’m not even a Texan, except by aspiration.
Any such rules of etiquette should be modified by common sense. I’ve seen ladies (using the term loosely) obviously expecting men encumbered with packages to open the door for them.
Read an interview once with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali lady who pisses the jihadis off so much.
She had been raised in fundamentalist Muslim society, and didn’t know men anywhere in the world treated women with respect. One of the things that convinced her to run away from that world was seeing a random man in the Netherlands hold the door in the airport for a random woman.
