Here's some Pennsylvania Dutch inexpensive comfort food which my mother taught me to make at an early age.
Egg Rivels
1 cup flour
2 eggs
1 14.5 oz. can stewed tomatoes w/juice
1/2 tsp sugar
dash of pepper
Combine the tomatoes, sugar and pepper in a pan and bring to a boil, simmer 5 minutes.
Stir up the eggs, add to the flour and mix into a dough with a fork but don't over work it.
Add small bits of the dough with your fingers to the tomatoes, stir it in and let cook for around 10 minutes plus.

That looks good. We have a PA Dutch recipe for chicken corn chowder that includes rivels, but I’ve never made them. Our recipe comes from William Woys Weaver’s book on Pennsylvania Dutch cooking.
Will try.
