Article says 22, but still a long way off. Plus when we we get there, we will all weigh three times as much. I think everybody who doesn’t commit suicide on the way there from “space despair”, won’t last long in such an environment.
I saw a sci fi short movie one time where some folks either landed or crashed onto a rainy planet. There was no life, just a maze of rocks and relentless pouring rain. They could find no shelter, and they all died one by one like the folks in “Open Water”. I could imagine that life on a heavy planet would be very dreary. All the girls would have HRC boobies and just getting up out of bed would be exhausting. 180 lbs becomes 540 lbs.

They just decoded the Signal.

It said, “don’t Vote for Obama”.
The next signal said, “do you have Hillary’s Email address”?

Too little, too late.

22 LY not 22 million...

In astronomical universal terms, that’s right on top of us...

Still a long way due to our lack of knowledge/technology, but all considered, extremely close.

My bet is there are literally billions of other planets which contain life in one form or another.

“If our life came about due to chance mixing of available materials, then shouldn’t that happen anywhere with any available chemicals?”

No, because there must be certain chemical reactions to provide the pathways for utilizing sources of energy, chemical and light, to fuel growth, reproduction, motility, and so forth. Carbon and Silicon working in various combinations with compounds utilizing such elements as Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Iron, Phosphorus, Manganese, and others are required to produce organic molecules and polymers necessary to organize for feeding and reproduction. Exobiologists have identified some of these yet to be discovered alternative pathways for biochemical reactions. Most, however, require conditions of pressure and temperature more closely akin to Earth-like environments due to our current ignorance of more extreme environments and their highly exotic chemistries. Jovian class planets for example have enough pressure to form water compunds into a form stronger than steel.

Wouldn’t it be wild to pick up some alien TV broadcast equivalent to “Cheers”, “I Love Lucy”, or “Big Bang Theory”.

“Luzettabixbox! You got some splainin’ to do!”

22 light years is not that far. The next generation of space telescopes that are being designed will be able to photograph this planet in some detail, at least being able to see clouds, continents, oceans, etc.

It’s conceivable to get there in under 200 years with reasonably close to current technology.

Hollow out an asteroid, pack it full of humans and have a central fusion plant “star” in the center and trundle off at 8-10% C and let the descendants colonize!
