A Florida citys code-enforcement division, which was subject in 2013 to a scathing audit for falsifying inspections, employing unqualified inspectors and failing to clean up nuisance properties, has now decided to go after churches.
City-code enforcement officer, Gerard A. Coscia wearing a hoodie was sent to the Common Ground Church on Feb. 9 to clandestinely film the worship service, reported the Examiner.
The following Sunday, Coscia returned to the church, which meets in the Coffee Grounds Coffee Bar, handed his business card to pastor Mike Olive and told him, This Sunday is your last Sunday.
I inspected the property and found the following violations: Business-rental property found without a current City of Lake Worth business license, specifically to operate as a church, or a house of worship, Coscia wrote in his case narrative, according to the Lake Worth Tribune.
But Common Grounds Coffee Bar does have a business license, Olive told the Tribune. He should know he owns the business. And the site is not a church its a coffee shop that leases space to a church every Sunday morning in the same manner other city restaurants and businesses rent their back rooms to neighborhood groups for their meetings.
Olive told the Tribune he had heard that City Commissioner Andy Amoroso, who owns a newsstand and gay-pornography shop in Lake Worth, was telling people Olive and his church were anti-gay, a charge Olive denied and attempted to address personally with Amoroso.
Olive said Amoroso told him, You better not have a church there. That better not be a church, referring to the coffee bar.

perverts forced back into the closet.
The Socialist Labor Party was hostile to the butterfly and flowers queers being in the public eye; they made their own butch homo storm troopers look bad.
The city councilman, Andy Amoroso, is homosexual. That is the reason for this harassment.
His email is aamoroso@lakeworth.org. I have written him. This is what happens when homosexuals are put into positions of power.
Gay Weddings Could Bring Lots of Business to Lake Worth if Legal, Commissioner Says
Andy Amoroso, the first openly gay city commissioner in Palm Beach County, is leading the charge for a gay marriage demonstration this coming weekend.

Sickening. America has no future.
There is absolutely no mention of any parking problems! It is the gay council member (I won’t call him “man”) trying to shut down a Christian church because they believe homosexuality is a sin and the homo can’t have that message being preached. Since when in America do we need a license for a church???
How in the world can you defend this action??? Sickening!
Did you even read the article? The church meeting is in a business not in a residential area.
It’s a coffee shop owned by the pastor of the church. No indication there was an issue with parking. This is nothing more than the gaystapo trying to silence Christians.
I know. I was just continuing the conversation.
Oh...ok.
I’m not defending it, just speaking as someone who lived across the street from a house used as a “church”.
Even in a business there is a difference between various types; a city might grant a variance for a dentist office but not a car wash due to differences in traffic volume.
But that’s NOT what happened here! This was a flat out attack on this particular “church”.
I would rather live across the street from a church house than a drug house. Talk about parking problems!
But it isn’t a house - well, a coffee house.
not too sure about that. plenty of gay black men and hispanic men.
These officials should be in jail
My small church rented a commercial building that had been a private theater for plays. The business was permitted for 160 persons and the place sold out on many weekends.
The first month the church moved in the inspectors came around and found all kinds of compliance issues. Months of meetings and negotiations finally resulted in the church pulling the plug on the location as the cost to fix the “problems” was more than we could afford.
The building was good enough for an identical commercial operation but not for a church. Our guess was the city didn’t like losing licensing fees from a commercial property that was occupied by a church which wasn’t required to pay fees.
Now we rotate holding meetings in different member’s homes each week.
Maybe; I read the article and would like to hear the other side of the story.
When people are expected to pay 30 years of a mortgage, they can be sensitive to nuisances.
Drug houses never have parking issues; people pull up, buy their goods, then move along...
Used to have one by my job.
I guess reading comprehension isn't your strong suit or you didn't bother to read the article. This is COMMERCIAL property NOT a HOUSE/RESIDENCE. There is no 30 year mortgage on a house. It's a COMMERCIAL working Coffee House/Cafe. Why can't you comprehend it?
