I can very easily understand why England wanted the Falklands in an age when wooden ships were sailing around America to get to the Pacific... Could anybody tell me why England wants the Falklands now??

First the residents consider themselves British. Second there is supposedly potential oil and gas in the area inside the Falklands Economic Exclusion Zone.

Because it belongs to them, and 90% of the inhabitants are British citizens.
Would be neat if the new bank notes actually showed the Argentinians surrendering enmasse after the Brits kicked their butts....

There are signs of Oil in and around the Falklands.

Also, Argentina needs a strawman to put up to distract the folks from the really bad economy.
