We know the following to be true: Jimmy McGill is an ideas man.
Sometimes, though, his ideas dont materialize as flawlessly as he/we had hoped, like that time he paid a pair of scummy skater punks to track down a new client, that time he used a cardboard tube to disguise his voice and that time this week when his failed idea forced him into being the first-ever action star with a comb-over.
It was a bold plan that landed Jimmy on the front page of his local paper with the headline: Local lawyer, local hero.
So lets dissect what exactly happened, shall we?

Great show. What the author missed is that Jimmy knew he would lose in front of the judge and be ordered to take the billboard down. We know that because he had all the numbers of the local reporters written down and ready to go. And the “few thousand” looked more like about 80K to me.
I’ve only seen part of one episode of this show - what is it about? Is it a comedy? I read somewhere that it is a spin off of Breaking Bad (which I have never seen, but it is on my list to watch all of the episodes if I ever get time).
BTW, that story was featured later on the NATIONAL NEWS.
It’s a Breaking Bad PREQUEL. I would classify it as a “dramedy.” A drama chock full of comedy.
I liked the watch and wallet scam at the beginning.
Yeah, what was it the guy said? "So long sucker?" And he was the one being suckered. What was that watch? A $50 Rolex knockoff?
You raise a good question. Even though this show is a prequel, I would recommend watching "Breaking Bad" first, and then "Better Call Saul" second.
It was 30k, that is what all the expenses he was listing on his “bill” added up to.
I’d say it is more of a dramedy, it is funny, but there is a serious storyline going on too. It’s a prequel to Breaking Bad, focused on one of the side characters from that show, the “criminal lawyer” (emphasis on criminal), Saul Goodman.
Yeah, that was a variation of the classic “lottery ticket” con, where you supposedly find a winning ticket and sell it for cheap to your companion. People are less suspicious of being conned when they think they are the ones getting one over on someone :)
I think Mike is already a “cleaner” despite working the gate in the parking garage.
A prequel of Mike from his days as a cop to when he finally meets Jimmy (Saul) would be interesting. They could call it “Half Measures” based on the conversation he had with Walt.
As others said, it’s both a drama and dark comedy. One point of confusion if you aren’t familiar is the main character’s name. His name is Jimmy McGill, and his older brother Chuck (who has a phobia about magnetic waves) is a partner in the largest law firm in town. He is trying to get them to buy his brother out, since he can’t work, but they don’t want to and his Chuck keeps saying he will “beat this thing”. The firm is also trying to get him to stop using McGill, since it’s part of their name too. We know from Breaking Bad he is known later as Saul Goodman. In this episode we learn it’s from “s’all good man”.
I recommend watching it from the beginning if you have on demand. You don’t really need to watch Breaking Bad first, it works on it’s own.
If he spent it all. I counted about eight bundles of 100s, 100x100 = 10k per bundle.
“I think Mike is already a cleaner despite working the gate in the parking garage.”
Nah, I can’t see that. Why would he keep a boring, minimum wage day job? It’s not really a job he can up and leave in the middle of the day if he gets a call, either.
Also, remember, he wasn’t a “cleaner”, per se, when BB started. He was a PI for Saul, who just happened to be willing to help out with less than legal jobs. I think Saul just hires him once he starts making money, since he knows that Mike is an ex-cop with good instincts who probably needs money.
No, those weren’t real expenses that he was listing, they were invented “expenses” to justify the bill that he was going to give to the Kettelmans. It seems he was serious about considering it a “retainer” and was typing up his bill to make the payment look legal.
I was watching the “story sync” on AMC with the episode last night, and they showed a list of all the expenses and it came out to 30k, so I think that is a pretty solid figure.
I liked the part when there was nothing but trees around and suddenly a car comes out of nowhere and nearly ditches into a gully. Then fade to black and suddenly somebody’s knocking on a door. That was pretty awesome.
Love this show!
I stil laugh every time I see Ehrmantrout slam Saul onto the pavement
When Saul busted the campers it was hilarious.
He also won a key concession from the judge. Hamlin’s first line of attack was to deny Jimmy the right to use his own name, and the judge struck that down without even intending to do so.
The latest episode referenced ‘Bates v. State Bar of Arizona’.
I had no idea some states (or state bars) once prevented attorneys from advertising their services.
