"What about how to trim lamp wicks? Got any tips?" Aladdin Lamps have a special trimmer for theirs. On flat wicks I cut the top straight and make a little curve in the ends....Don't know more than that.

Use very sharp scissors.
Do not cut at an angle.
If you are camping and your purified water tastes bad add a lump of charcoal. (Not a bricket the real type without lighter fluid) Let sit for a bit then strain and drink.
