Important note on barrel length:
The barrel length in a home defense situation is not very important as the average distance will be 10’ to 15’. At the shooting range the longer barrel will be more accurate and will be more fun as it will be more accurate. You will shoot more.
If you are carrying, the barrel length is important. A snubby should work but they are primarily short range revolvers. Most longer barreled .38s will shoot rather well at 100 yards.

Try out a S&W Model 617. Classic stainless revolver, 6 inch bbl, 10 shots. It looks exactly like a Model 686 357 magnum.
Shoots great, reliable, easier to clean. It’s pricey though.
