3RD UPDATE, SATURDAY AM: If Fifty Shades Of Grey handcuffs Universals very early international weekend estimate of $158.3M, it will become the studios 2nd biggest offshore opening frame ever, just behind Fast & Furious 6s $160.3M. Outside sources whisper that it is likely to climax even higher than that for this five-day session. A long way from what was once second-rate Twilight fan-fiction that was the butt of many jokes.
Rather sad in my opinion.
Now we will be overrun with these crappy movies.
This is a sad thing, nothing to be in the least proud about.
The world is showing its debauched nature openly.
I would be stunned if it lasted. It will probably drop off by a lot after two or three weeks.
Exactly my thought. Starts to make The Bridge of Madison County look good.
Even so the movie only cost $40 MM to produce. This is going to be a huge rate of return for the studio. The 2nd movie is already green lighted and I have no doubt there will the 3rd.
I perused it at the book store just to see the quality of writing. It was just as I suspected. A second-grader could have written it, it was so disjointed and vacuous. It’s even worse than Dan Brown’s garbage.

That’s not usually how it works. I’m seeing some fun with numbers.
Also, R rated movies usually don’t do all that well. So they are comparing it with other movies that don’t do all that well.
Holy cow!
Saw that feminists in the UK were protesting this movie meanwhile they were dead silent over the muslim rape of UK girls in Rotherham.
Data being massaged.
Sex sells.
Emergency rooms will be packed. Schools can organize parties. Entire new social networks can be formed and come out of the closet.
The makers of Ishtar are jealous.
