That’s one time the speller didn’t catch it. I don’t know which is better, changing the spelling of something that I want, or not changing something that is wrong ... LOL ...

19% to be more accurate.

We had previous posts here where Apple surpassed Samsung in Q4. Another post here shows that Apple’s sales “slope” on a graph of sales per quarter, for six quarters back, shows a slope up, while Samsung shows a slope on their graph going down (averaged and for these last six quarters).

In addition to that, we found out in a court case that Samsung was fudging its sales numbers for smart phones by including sales of older-style flip phones and similar types, rolling them into the sales of smartphones.

Apple doesn’t deal in product for the market of old-style phones so has nothing to do with those people. Apple ONLY sells smart phones.

SO ... as it turns out, when you remove Samsung old-style phones from the market figures, Apple has far surpassed Samsung. That’s why Samsung is losing money big time. And that’s also why Apple has 93% of the market’s profit for this kind of phone!

With Samsung bleeding red for the last few quarters, Android is going to find Samsung might not be there for a “product” to put “Android” on.

AND ... from what I’ve seen that percentage includes a lot of old systems (quite old systems, since Android is tremendously fragmented) and it doesn’t include much, by comparison of all that is out there, of the NEW ONES. There are a lot of old ones just “sitting around” in drawers and not being used. I know from seeing it myself, too.

With Apple, their market is new, and the current sales are outstripping all the previous sales in the history of the company, and they’ve made more profit than any other business in the “history of business” ... :-) ...

You need an updated chart that show current systems and phone models that people are using today.

"Everything that you use as a consumer goes down in value."

No everything YOU use as a consumer goes down in value because you do not know how to use your money effectively.

For instance my dad bought a 1990 Cadillac a few years back for 1500 bucks less than 50K miles. He had an offer last week for 5000 Bucks. He turned it down because he loves the car. the only repairs he has made on it was a fix in the roof lining that cost him 300 bucks and a new switch that cost him less than 80 bucks.

Several years back I bought a flexsteel chair for 50 bucks at an estate sale. We used it for several years and had it recovered in black leather we had zero cost in the job because we gave the lady doing the job an old table we got that was left over from a renter who moved out and left it behind. I put the chair in my recording studio office and the wife of a guy who was laying down tracks wanted to know where she could get one. I told her it was custom and doubtful if she could get one like it. She took a pic of it before she left. Apparently she had no luck cause she came back and offered me 350 bucks. I smiled and said sold.

I bought a very expensive 8 burner gas stove restaurant quality at an auction. The thing was barely used. I got it for 100 bucks. We were going to put it in our apartment because we both like to cook and and can stuff from our vegetable garden and lots of burners come in handy. While we were unloading it into the warehouse part of our building the new owners of the restaurant across the street either saw us doing so or one of the other store owners did and then told then about it because next day they were inquiring what I was going to do with it. I joked with them about opening a new restaurant too but told them the truth we were just putting it in our apartment. He offered me 500 bucks. I smiled and said sold.

Its a small town and everyone knows we are always buying and selling stuff. I got a cork board full of things people want so I can be on the lookout for a deal.

Sparky if that is what it takes for you to feel superior to me while you run on the highpriced geegaw treadmill be my guest.

You still are NOT PAYING ATTENTION!

Let me try once again. I am not on any "high-priced treadmill" that you seem to think. Because you do not understand the concept of total cost of ownership, which you repeatedly mistake for PURCHASE PRICE, you apparently never will.

With an iPhone, I could have essentially purchased it ONCE, back in 2007, when I bought my original iPhone. When I upgraded to the iPhone 3GS, I could have SOLD that original iPhone for more than the 3GS cost me (I instead handed that original iPhone to my wife instead of buying her a better phone because hers was dying), when I upgraded my iPhone 3GS, to an iPhone 4s I could have again SOLD that iPhone for considerably more than the cost of the new iPhone, but instead my wife got the 3gs, the original iPhone went to my daughter.

On the next upgrade to the iPhone 5, I was divorced, so I SOLD the 18 month old iPhone 4s for almost twice $199 the upgrade to the iPhone 5 cost me, my ex-wife kept her iPhone 3GS, daughter kept the original iPhone for another six months until she upgraded to an iPhone 5c for $99, and gave that now seven-and-a-half-year-old original iPhone to her niece—my three year old granddaughter—to use as an iPod touch.

When I upgraded to my iPhone 6, I again SOLD my 18 month old iPhone 5 for twice what I paid for it . . . and I got the iPhone 6 for $0 out of pocket. . . And I put the money I sold the iPhone 5 for in my pocket! My daughter just did the same thing, and put that money in her pocket, too.

I don’t get used stuff, except for a couple of items, like a few cars, but even them mostly new. Used stuff has too many problems with it. They don’t have no-question returns or long-term guarantees. I’ve seen the junk that comes from places that sell used, and I don’t want to waste my time on looking around at many different places or estate sales or garages sales to do that, like I’ve seem some friends and relatives waste their time on with “junk” resulting from it. AND, they never really get what they actually want, but something almost like what they want, or something missing or something needs fixing. All in all, it’s a terrible waste of time.

I shop by first doing research on product and reviews by customers, usually in down-time as I’m waiting around (just like now, I’m waiting in a doctor’s office), and then I know what I want. I find out further on pricing and guarantee and then I buy. I get that done in less time than someone going to one garage sale, and then my time is my own.

For the most part ... buying used (although a lot of people do it) is a tremendous waste of time, money and other resources ... for something that is never “quite” what you wanted.

But ... overall ... it is an absolute fact that you take all the consumer products that are moved during a year of consumer sales (the entire market) for items that have a value of some sort over time, and it will depreciate no matter what ... you could say that 99.99% of the goods will. The other 0.01% that doesn’t is because of some other reason that gave the product a higher value after it was sold.

Lastly ... if you sold some things for a higher price after you got it used, either it was a fire sale item, for pennies on the dollar, or it was stolen and you don’t know it, or the person you eventually sold it to “got taken” - namely he was STUPID and bought it for a higher price than he should have ... LOL ...

But this constant fanboy posting every time someone says something nice about apple is like parents who post pictures of their babies every time they successfully use the potty.

Let's see. There is an interest group on FreeRepublic comprising SEVEN HUNDRED OF YOUR FELLOW FREEPERS who have asked me to post articles on topics related to Apple, Macs, OS X, iOS, iPhones and iPads that interest them because they want to be kept up to date on the devices they've chosen to use.

On the other hand there's a very small group, you included, who seem to be offended that this group of SEVEN HUNDRED FELLOW FREEPERS may want to learn about something you don't care to and discuss it, so you come in and insult them, their choices, and everything about them.

So, on one side we have SEVEN HUNDRED FELLOW FREEPERS who freely choose to participate in a discussion forum about something they are interested in, and who have freely opted to JOIN that ping list. . . and on the other side of this equation we have about 6 RUDE, NASTY, OBSCENE, INSULT SLIMGING SKUNKS, SPRAYING THEIR BILE ALL OVER THESE THREADS, THROWING FECES) trying their best to disrupt the threads. You included. ONE OF THEM GOT HIMSELF BANNED FROM FR FOR HIS BEHAVIOR LAST MONTH! That makes you completely unwelcome in these threads. I,d think you trolls would have talked a lesson from that, but some of you just doubled down, you in particular. The members of that PING list do not come to these threads to see the antics of antisocial asses.

Oh I see. you think total cost of ownership is determined by tradein value.

Tell me when you bought your first iPhone if you had decided you didn't want to keep it because you just didn't want a cell phone anymore, could you have sold it for what you had in it?

In 1977 I bought a Brand new Fender Strat. Got it at a discount because the pick guard was cracked still played fine. I replaced the pick guard and played it professionally till 1985 when a buddy offered me 40% more than I paid for it. I sold it and used the money to buy a slightly used Gibson Les Paul and within a year and traded for a 1983 Strat and a 1982 tele. I played them for a few more years and then retired from playing music professionally. Sold them for 3 times what I paid for the original strat in 1977 and made money by playing those various guitars for over 13 years.

You know why? Because Gibson and Fender Guitars are made well and are worth every penny because they actually go up in value and that is because they still do the job even after 40 years. Apple and Android geegaws do not. They are temporary tech and they are designed that way. The trick is to know what you are buying and if it has real value for the long haul. Temp Tech does not. It loses it's ability to function as it ages like batteries quitting or screens getting scratched etc.

Well, gee, Dawgg, why didn't you just buy some KOREAN knock off copies of the Gibson and Fender Git boxes? After all, they'll do the same thing and they'll do it for less money. . . The fact is you don't know the difference in this area and were willing to accept junk.

not an Apple hater. I have Apple stock. Just can’t figure out why the snobs wait hours in line to get the new iPhone when they can walk in and get it the next day without waiting.

No, if you did not get the iPhone six by waiting in line, if you had not pre-ordered, you were facing a six-week to two-month wait. . . Because demand created backlogs. Lines continued for getting iPhones at Apple stores for over a month and a half!

Why they have to wait in line for the 6 when the 6S is coming out soon.

Apple generally releases new iPhone model once a year. So the 6s won't be out until next September. Then would the argument be "Why upgrade to the iPhone 6s when the 7 will be out soon?" You can always dither around waiting for the next upgrade.

I see so then buying High and selling low Makes you smart but the opposite makes you either really dumb or a thief.

it amazes me how your worship Apple for making a profit but you work hard not to do so and then take to task me for Making a profit like Apple does.

Of course Apple uses cheap labor to make their stuff I just pay for good deals that others offer me. But in your mind I am the one who is taking advantage of people.

BTW the reason you consider used stuff junk is because you are a member of the church of consumerism. You must buy new things or you can't find value. That same philosophy is why More and More Americans are in serious trouble financially. We used to make things in America that last for decades. Now its all geared to get consumers to buy new gadgets every couple years.

still using my years old Galaxy phone and tablet. Both get the job done and were years ahead of Apple when they came out. Even today, I see no reason to upgrade.

I looked at the Samsung Galaxy S2 and their tablets. . . And helped client with them. No, they were not "years ahead of Apple". . .and were not anywhere close to Apple's technology which Samsung was desperately copying. The apps on the Android tablets were merely blown up phone apps, and usually not well implemented. The user interface is still not well thought out.

Oh Sparky I have dozens upon dozens of knockoff guitars. All of them I bought really cheap and then use them to play a bit and then I sell them for more than I paid for them. Because I can.

See again a 10 year old knock off guitar still plays music just like it did the first day off the line. In fact it can actually get a better sound over time.

Temp tech smartphones do not. Because they are designed that way.

Heck, I thought it was deliberate. Think what leaving the leaving the ‘c’ out and pronouncing the word correctly after the soft “sh” sound instead of a hard “sk” sound the ‘c’ would make it have. Makes it very “punish”, don’t you think?
