MALIBU, Calif. — Gender-bender reality-TV star Bruce Jenner rear-ended a car Saturday, causing an accident that killed a woman motorist.
Seven other people were injured in the accident, which happened shortly after noon on the Pacific Coast Highway near its intersection with Corral Canyon Road.
Jenner’s dark blue Cadillac Escalade was towing a dune buggy in a trailer when he rear-ended a white Lexus sedan being driven by an elderly woman.

That explains why the window was down, but not why he was following so close and couldn’t stop. I guess we’ll know for sure once the phone records come back. As I said before, if the paparazzi made her stop short they will be on the hook. But he furthered the chain reaction so him hitting the Lexus is still his fault.
And when a Lexus sedan hits a Hummer like that head on, forget about it, the Lexus stands zero chance

welcome, it’s so hard when a thread is long to read the entire thread then go back and post. I know other Freeps answered or posted the info earlier. I just didn’t know because I am slowing getting to the end.

The paparazzi weren’t a factor. There were 5 of them following him at normal speed.
Both Bruce and the police said theybwere not at fault.

Looks to me like an H2 — built on a Suburban-like chassis. Not the military version.
As far as establishing blame, it doesn’t make a bit of difference whether (s)he was holding a cigarette or a cell phone.
He rear ended another car because he was inattentive or following too close as the other car slowed due to the fact that they were approaching an intersection.
The standard excuse in such a situation is that the car in front braked suddenly. That excuse almost never works. Nor does claiming that paparazzi are chasing you.
In any event, the cops will have readouts from both cars’ computers, they have the photos, and there are witnesses.

Seems like there should be trailer skid marks though.

If the Prius that she had hit (rear ended) was still close to her bump rear ending of that Prius and then Bruce either pulled to the side to try to avoid hitting her, or was drifting, but my question is, if the Prius was sill close from the first “crash” when Bruce hit the Lexus would the Prius being so close by (from the first rear end) possible have slowed the Lexus’s or prevented it from being pushed hard in to oncoming traffic and the Hummer? The Prius if close (from first accident) would have absorbed some of the impact of the second collision (Bruce)?
Actually, I have a caveat to that statement. If you are in a car, you hold the cigarette in whichever hand is closest to the window. That’s the one major exception.
