I don’t think that Jindal is like you.

Just show me the quote.

Wrong. Catholic Church has a Credo and a Catechism

humm, all these denominations claiming C.S. Lewis as their own. i think he'd feel good about that. like he'd accomplished his main goal. brilliant but very humble man who i think wrote for the whole of Christianity, and thus for the true body of Christ. his book, Miracles: A Preliminary Study, is the best short book on reason and proof, naturalism, supernaturalism or metaphysics, comparative religion, philosophy, and theology i've ever read.

You have to understand that Steelfish believes that “Church Tradition” is more valid than the actual words of Christ and the Bible. I can pull up the thread too where he said that.

“Church Tradition” is where folks got the idea that saying 30 “hail mary’s” will get them a pardon from God over going to the actual scriptures on forgiveness—such as 1 John 1:9.

I’m still waiting on him to point me out where in the HOLY BIBLE does God say to adore Mary and pray to her—just one verse is all I’m asking for...I get nothing but crickets and nonsensical arguments that Bible Christians attract low IQ followers.

He should follow the Pope’s advice...”who am I to judge?”

Lewis’s MERE CHRISTIANITY led me back to Catholicism. He was a high church Anglican, which is similar apart from papal primacy.

yes he was nominally Anglican, but he was comfortable giving talks and writing to many different Christian groups and individuals (ref. his collected letters). i believe, he truely was an adherent of Mere Christianty.

“His beliefs were consistent with Christian beliefs!”

Are you sure about that?

Let me be clear, I would never say he wasn’t a saved man because I don’t know what was really in his heart at the end of his life.

I understand why Catholics would be comfortable with him, but Protestants and Evangelicals should know he rejected many of your foundational beliefs. I won’t delve into all the minutiae here, but, among many other problems, Lewis rejected biblical inerrancy, penal substitutionary atonement, and salvation by faith alone.

Much has been written and said about his aberrant beliefs, so I won’t recreate the work of others. I decided to stay away from his work years ago and don’t know the best resources on Lewis. I did a quick search and the articles linked below popped-up. There may be much better ones out there. I also found a few sermons from sermonaudio.com.

Catholics are taught and teach that Holy Scripture, Tradition, and church teachers(Magisterium) are how we learn about our Faith. Tradition and teachers do not supersede Holy Scripture. It is more like all three are mutually inclusive in teaching the faith but at the same time not contradicting each other.
The Hail Mary at least the first part is taken from the words of the Angel Gabriel and Mary’s cousin Elizabeth to Mary. The last line of the prayer is one of petition and asks Mary to “Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death”. So we are asking Mary to pray to her Son and her Saviour for us.
C.S Lewis is good Christian writing for all Christians, Protestant as well as Catholic. I suppose he would be pleased that all Christians can and do share in his God given wisdom.

I’m sure if we tried hard enough we could find fault with everyone - except Jesus. And He said to judge them by their fruits - and C. S. Lewis has had a bumper croup!

All of those well educated Hispanics have memorized scripture like the national anthem of Mexico.

I would wager that being well read is more often a ticket down the path to perdition than salvation.

so does the Lutheran church and many other denominations. BTW I mean the confessional Lutheran church, not the idiots in the ELCA. Try the Augsburg confession and Luthers small catechism and get back to me on the lack of catechism and credo. But ultimately the only thing that matters is the believers relationship with Christ.

And have fun trying to backtrack and defend everything your current rather nutty Vicar of Christ (another blasphemy by the way) has to say.... the popes credo is certainly interesting, and would be entertaining except for the damage being done to fellowship of believers by his antics.

Believe as you will. As for me and my house, we believe doctrine matters.

Galatians 1:6-9

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Have you been a Berean and searched the Scriptures to see if the things Lewis said were so?

Acts 17:10-11

And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

I was quick to say I couldn’t judge his eternal destiny because I can’t know his heart. However, what I can do, and what I must do, is judge his teaching. I make an effort to weigh all things I am taught against Scripture.

“But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.” (1 Corinthians 2:15)

These days, the converts no longer have to swim the Tiber. They can easily walk across on the backs of millions of Hispanics swimming the other way.

LOL, roger that. I always got a kick out of Screwtape and Wormwood.

Go do your own research.

I wasn’t the one who you were questioning.

“And He said to judge them by their fruits - and C. S. Lewis has had a bumper crop!”

Sorry, not good enough. He didn’t reject evolution and was too Catholic in his Christianity or something.

Obviously.
